“The Old Adage States, "You Get What You Pay For"”
Reviewed 26 May 2008

Yes, I decided to give the Microtel chain another chance. While this one was far better than my last experience, there were still problems.

First of all, be aware this is a nicely situated property with reasonable rates located quite a distance from the main drag (US-250) in Sandusky. It rates are reasonable and the exterior appears well kept.

My first dose of reality came in the filth of the carpet in our room, as it appeared to have have not been vacuumed once before or during our stay. Adding to the cleanliness problems was the filth and trash in the lights right above our beds, the dust on many surfaces, and trash left in the wardrobe by a previous occupant.

From a maintenance aspect, we were always frustrated by the non-operation of the lock on our room door and a "hot tub" which might be more suitably used in chilling a bottle of nice wine. But speaking of chilling, the ice machine appeared to work very well.

There is constant loud noise from a busy train track almost next to the property. Since there is a crossing here the train horns can be experienced almost 24/7. If that noise does not keep you awake, then the children bouncing off the floor above at all hours certainly will.

As I said, you get what you pay for. If you are willing to deal with any of the situations I described, then certainly spend your hard-earned dollars on this below-average property where you will be serenaded by diesel horns throughout the long night!

After spending a few hours weeding throught the reviews for other hotels in the Cedar Point area, Microtel Huron ended up winning our attention.

Talk about a hidden oasis. Using the 'back way' into Cedar Point was great! After spending half the day in the car getting to the park, then the rest of the day at the park, when you don't have to fight traffic to leave, it makes for a nice day.

The hotel is very easy to get to, and it less than 5 minutes from the 'main drag', 250. Myself and a friend both booked on the hotel's website, and later called to confirm the reservations. We didn't check in unitl midnight, and it couldn't have gone smoother.

Getting to the rooms, they were exactly what they look like on the website. Clean, comfortable and surprisingly roomy. Yes, there is a train that passes by on a fairly steady basis, but you don't notice so much.

24 hr pool access is great! Other than price, this was probably the second selling point on the hotel. After spending the day in the park, it's nice to relax in the pool regardless of when you get in.

Very nice facility, definately going to stay again, and would recommend to others looking for good value, good quality and easy access.

Great place to stay. About 5 to 10 minutes from cedar point. Great for the money. The train was not nosiey at all. Check in time was 3 and i arrived at 2 thinking there would be no problem checking in an hour early...room was not ready. I have never had a problem with this before with any hotel i stayed at. When i arrived to my room they had made a mistake and giving me a suite. The suite is beautiful and roomey. Room was clean, no odor, mold etc.. We never got a chance to go the pool because after cedar point was closed the pool at the hotel seem to be packed! Overall a wonderful place to stay. Only complaint is the hotel needs more parking spaces!

OK... so researching Cedar Point and moaning because of the reviews/availability regarding hotels. We decided to stay at this one because it came up as #2. We stayed for 3 nights Sun-Tues. Truthfully, it was above decent. Our room, #221 was very clean when we checked in and stayed that way throughout. No questionable towels or bedding. Breakfasts (danish,mini-muffins, bagels, cereal, not nice looking fruit) were fine for starting the day. Pool -small-indoor, looked clean. GREAT back way to get to Cedar Point (about 15 min drive)-very pretty and never had a wait entering or leaving. I have to say that the desk staff was very friendly when we asked any questions. Two things to note - YES - there is a train that runs by frequently and does blow its whistle. It didn't bother us too much (husband and son slept through all 3 nights!) but I did hear others saying it did, so.... that would be something to keep in mind. Also, we leave a tip for the cleaning staff every day. At the park, the onsite lodgings looked cute but we paid 85.00 a night compared to what I had priced -some over $200.00 UGGG! Cedar Point - really nice park and fantastic roller coasters!!
