“Wonderful Getaway!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

My wife and I came here shortly after our wedding for a relaxing couple of days. Tim and Beth were so warm and calm, we immediately felt at home. Tim took plenty of time to tell us all about the island (our first time). The breakfast they offer is AMAZING, some of the best food on the island right here! If you are going to check out Kelly's island, this is the place to stay, and if you are looking for a stress free escape this is definitely a must!

My wife and I have been staying at A Waters Edge Resort for may years. We have found the facilities quiet and well kept. The staff is always friendly and with the Hermes wonderful cooking the breakfasts are superb. There are lake views in all but one of the rooms and the lake is close enough to hear the water. While the resort is a walk to town having golf carts and bicycles available make the trip easy.Beth and Tim are always gracious hosts who we .feel are friends.
On a few occasions we have been able to take a short sail with Tim on Nike which was memorable
Kellys Island has long been a place for us to relax and having found A Waters Edge has made it more so. .

My girlfriend and I stayed the weekend of August 1 as an escape from our stressful jobs. This b&b was absolutely perfect. The owners Tim and Beth were friendly and extremely accommodating. Our room Theresa Regina had a gorgeous view of the water. The nightly red sangria was delicious. The breakfast was not the standard continental. It was a homemade made from scratch breakfast that was quite tasty. Being a coffee conniseur, their coffee was excellent. We sat on their dock overlooking the water that first night enjoying the water views and sipping wine. Since this was my first time to Kelleys island, I would definitely return and stay at the waters edge .

My husband and I have now visited and stayed at Water's Edge three times now. Each time we have stayed in a different room. Each one has had it's own unique charm. My own thought about the comments on the rooms is we all have chosen to stay in a bed and breakfast which in my opinion means we are all very close and if we wanted extreme privacy then go commercial. You can't beat the comfort of each room.
The breakfast is beyond outstanding and homemade. The location is perfect and pretty close to downtown. You may utilize their bicycles all day if you like or rent a golf cart.
Tim and Beth make you feel apart of their family and John and I are so grateful to them. There is also a hot tub in the back but we never have used it.
We look forward in coming back each year is holds a very special place in our hearts.

A fair review is supported by experience with a reasonable number of comparables. We are seasoned travelers with an objective sense of what is required to be considered a good Inn in our book. Our favorite public houses are The Inn at Craig Place, San Antonio, Texas; The Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Michigan, and; Simpson House Inn, Santa Barbara, California. You can now add A Water’s Edge Retreat, Kelleys Island, Ohio, to our list because there’s nothing like it on the North Coast.
Tim and Beth are superb hosts, their establishment is top shelf, the lake views are terrific, the breakfast is first rate, and if we had one complaint to make it would be that we really didn’t have more time to enjoy their company. We do, however, return to where we are treated the best. We look forward to other moments on the porch, shoes off, kicking back, listening to the waves break on the beach, and maybe seeing another Bald Eagle scoop his evening meal out of the current. That magnificent event was just another perk from Captain Tim and his First Mate. A Grog of Ale for that...Thank you Tim and Beth. Pep and Deb

Room Tip: We stayed on the Third Floor, the Paul Francis room - None better.

My wife and I stayed at the Waters Edge Retreat from the 29th through the 1st of August. Check in time is a little late, at 3pm, but that gives you plenty of time to check out the beautiful views and excellent food that Kelly's Island has to offer. The Waters Edge staff uses that extra time to make the place perfect. It's a beautiful home, inside and out. Every room is peaceful and relaxing. I just read another review from someone who had to have been in a room right beside us and I never knew they were there.

When we wanted to explore the island, Tim Hermes, who runs the place with his wife Beth, recommended every place on the island for each of their specialties: if we wanted wine, go to the winery, there's an excellent pizza place here, this place did excellent ribs when these people owned it... He seemed to know the owners and the menu of every place on the island. We ate, we drank, we were merry, and then we went to sleep in the coziest room I've ever stayed in. The sound of the water here is peaceful and constant, completely different from the shore at the ocean.

Perhaps the best part, however, it's the breakfast. The staff puts out a pretty good spread, all of which is excellent. On our first morning, Beth had made apple strudel. Sadly, the apples on the trees outside the retreat weren't ripe yet, so it was made with bought apples. It was no less delicious however. The next morning there was a spiced apple pound cake. It was moist and amazing. Tim and Beth were there each morning to make sure the accommodations were good for each guest.

All in all, the Waters Edge Retreat was perfect. If you want thrills, the whole of Kelly's island might not be for you, Waters Edge included. If you want great food, views, and relaxation then you should definitely check out Waters Edge Retreat.

The coffee and breakfast was delicious, and the owners are extremely nice. The view from the 3rd floor was dynamite and it was beautiful to wake up to. They have bikes to use at no cost, which is really nice. They also have golf carts to rent for $12 an hour. The room was VERY clean, and I would definitely stay again.
