The hotel dates to 1873. It is historic. It was reclaimed from decline i the 1970's. Porch is nice, views are great. We had a 1 double bed room. Antique/ period furniture. Bed was ok. Bath was small and adequate. There are no TV's here. They employ HS and college kids. They just make the beds and leave fresh towels, no actual cleaning of the room. Morning continental BF was adequate. They do have WIFI. No papers available. This is all within a fenced in Chatauqua Community.

Went with 2 friends and didn't find it as clean as we hoped - spider web on inside window, dirty fan blades. Very small rooms, not impressed with furnishings in hotel. Nice big lobby with piano was nice, nice dining room with good continental breakfast. Enjoyed sitting on porch to play games and relax. Beautiful flowers and grounds. Pricey when you have to pay just to get into Lakeside plus parking. Hotel does not have their own parking. Reception girls were nice.

Room Tip: We were in Room 514 with one queen and one twin. Twin was rocking somewhat. No view but we didn'...

We arrived at Hotel Lakeside already aware of its lovely porch and lobby -- we'd been to Lakeside before and had stayed at the sister property and thought we'd try the Victorian gem by the lake. We were "greeted" at reception by someone who managed to be both curt and condescending. NB there is very limited parking at the hotel, if you don't get lucky finding parking behind the building you'll have to park at the main gate (where you will have paid about $25 a night per person to enter Lakeside; this money pays for town-wide programming) and take a shuttle back to town.

We stayed in room 531 "2nd floor lake view". I would be surprised if the room is larger than 10' by 10'; there was less than 2 feet around the bed. The bathroom was as you might expect at camp, very simple, which would have been ok if it had been clean (see photo). The rooms had no soundproofing. It was disconcerting listening to the couple in the room next to ours discussing their upcoming trip to Chicago. My husband and I both slept with pillows over our heads to block out the light from the streetlight outside our window which burned with the brightness of 1,000 splendid suns (there was no blackout curtain or shade) and to reduce the compressor sounds from the soda and ice machines right outside our door (and yes I was wearing ear plugs). We left this hotel with the distinct impression that they didn't care.

Room Tip: I'd stay far away from the "lake view" rooms in the original part of the hotel; much b...

If you like Victoriana, quiet, and peace, this is the place for you. This hotel was built in the 19th century and has been gradually restored and maintained over the years. The rooms are charming with period pieces in each room and period-type wallpaper. There is a large, screened-in, wraparound porch that overlooks Lake Erie. You can sit there forever and read. There's an onsite restaurant that serves a free continental breakfast and a full lunch and dinner if you're interested. And there's a game room full of puzzles and games for the families. I've stayed there several times with my book group and my family, and we've always had a wonderful experience. I'm surprised to see negative reviews of any sort. The place is so clean; in fact, the staff is always walking around cleaning things. This hotel -- and all of this Lakeside Chautauqua -- is the kind of place where you want to relax and unwind without the distractions of TV, etc. They do have wifi because, let's face it, we need it these days.

Hotel Lakeside is a 19th century hotel within Chautauqua Lakeside. The rooms are very basic and small (one straight-backed chair, no room for a desk). There are no distractions like a TV, though there is free Wi-fi. It's a fading Victorian Queen that has charm and a very basic restaurant. We did not have a lake view, which would have added value. It's a bit pricey for what you get, but it's ideally located if you like the Chautauqua experience.

Room Tip: You might want to try for lake view rooms.

We had dinner on a busy Sunday night of July 4th week. The lobster bisque was delicious. My fish was properly cooked. There is no wine as this is a religious vacation spot. Once was enough, but it was a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: I did not stay in the hotel, but did ask to see a room. I would not stay in the hotel as it is date...

...the staff was very accommodating of our large group. The beef and potatoes were excellent. Old, Victorian building on the lake--very quaint and scenic. Would recommend the Sunday brunch. Good experience.
