“Very peaceful and beautiful place!!!”
Reviewed 10 October 2008

We stayed in a cabin while visiting Hocking Hills and it was one of the most relaxing, laid-back, trips that I had ever been on.

We most have picked a great time of the year to go (late May), because there were not that many people around at all. While staying in the cabin, I think that we were the only people around for 5 miles. Everything was so quiet and the weather happened to be just perfect for taking hikes in the woods and having campfires in the evening. Our cabin even had a pool table and a hot tub for some late night fun or morning relaxation.

Overall, this was a fantastic trip, but probably better suited for couples and not families as there wasn't a whole lot to keep young kids entertained for long periods of time.

“The area incredible the park ok”
Reviewed 22 July 2008

We camped at one of the reservable spots in the hocking hills state park:

- Wonderful outdoor pool with slide
- Lots of amazing rock formations and trails in or near the park. We visited four and in order we liked the below list (keeping in mind we have 3 boys under 8). Ash and Conkle's are paved and stroller friendly but we accomplished at least parts of all of them even with a 2 year old though there are a lot of very dangerous cliffs so you do need to be extremely careful.

1) Old Man's Cave
2) Ash Cave
3) Conkle's Hollow
4) Rock House

Campsite crammed together (as compared to some other state parks I've camped at in central ohio) and a lot of sites impossible to place a tent and only useful for pop ups or campers

“Beautiful Park”
Reviewed 29 April 2008

We stayed in a cabin in the state park late in April. The scenery in the park is incredible. Hiked around both Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave and couldn't have been more impressed.

The cabin itself had recently been remodeled, and would have rated "excellent" except for the mattresses. While new, they were the hardest ones I've ever slept on and very uncomfortable. There were four of us, and we were all slept poorly and were in agreement on that.

We still hope to return soon, though I'm leaning towards trying one of the many private cabins in the area in hopes of finding a better nights sleep.

“We were in Ohio? Could have fooled me!”
Reviewed 13 October 2007

Our three day adventure in the Hocking Hills region of Ohio has left us anxious to return. Six different areas make up the park: Cantwell Cliffs, Conkle's Hollow, Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave and Rock House. What the names don't convey is the beautiful, enchanting and etheral places in the park!

All six areas offer hiking for new hikers or seasoned pro's; there were 1/2 mi trails with few or no steps, to a 6 mile trail through three of the areas (and hundreds of steps for those who wished to climb!) We saw older hikers with walking sticks taking on all areas of the part; our midweek visit did allow us few crowds and just tons of scenery down in the gorges as well as up on the rims.

By far, the children (5,7 & 11) loved Old Man's Cave the best. The story, the cavern and the bridges made the place feel truly enchanted. I felt as if we were in a Lord of the Rings setting, it was so lush, green and yet etheral (I cannot believe this was Ohio!!)

Hubby and I preferred Cantwell Cliffs. The steps carved right into the side of the wall with the sheer drop off steps away--it was incredible.

Please note: This is not a good place for those who fear heights OR those with children who do not obey. There are "Cliff Warnings" at every park entrance and our children quickly learned that this was not a joke! I personally did not trust the 5 years old's footing and clung to her hand constantly lest she slip with a mistep!!

We will definitely return...we couldn't believe how close it was to us and that we'd never heard of it before...amazing!

“Such a Great Getaway!!!!!!”
Reviewed 7 June 2006

We've been going to the Hocking Hills Region for 26 years, using it as our vacation with our 2 kids, .....usually taking a 2 bedrm. cabin at Hocking HIlls State Park ... one year we had a family Reunion there, with relatives from 4 states filling several cabins, and had a great time - we are STILL talking about that week together and how everyone loved the peace & quiet of the countryside.

In November of last year, we stayed at Hocking Hills Country Vista cabins for a weekend to celebrate our Anniversary .... it was cold & a little snowy but loved every minute of it ... the cabin was gorgeous!! With the fireplace, the spiral staircase leading up to the bedroom loft and the cozy homespun atmosphere of the cabin for 2, it was the perfect setting for a relaxing mini vacation.

We can't say enough about that area, and, as our tradition, will be going back to Logan next month for our yearly 'family' vacation.
