If you are particular about a clean room and bathroom, this is definitely the place for your stay. Everything was absolutely spotless and fresh smelling. The Rose Garden room fireplace was warm and cozy on two cold nights. I did not think to ask when I booked the room if the room had a window. It does not, so the spectacular view outside was not visible. If you are at all claustrophobic, choose a different room. The breakfasts were gourmet, all homemade food. We learned about Amish culture from the owners and followed their excellent tours from a large binder we could take with us. We would return again and would recommend the Garden Gate Getaway to other travelers.

If you want a relaxing, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean B & B in the heart of amish country, this is the place to stay! On top of that, Herb & Carol were delightful and so knowledgeable about the Amish and the area. The breakfasts were great and the snacks delicious! The nightly campfires were so relaxing and a great way to get acquainted with the other guests. The bed was so comfortable that I wanted to take it home. Overall the price was reasonable for everything that you get. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We've stayed at B&Bs and cottages in over a dozen states and 5 foreign countries. The Garden Gate cottages have all the charm of Motel 6. Ours was located, literally 20 feet from a busy road. The one time that we heard the clip clop of horse's hooves did not make up for the 3 large trucks and dozen cars that went by in the night. the view from the porch is either a ratty pasture with piles of manure about 6 feet away, or a bunch of big metal warehouse buildings in the distance.
The fireplace was the cheapest one they could find, with a wimpy blue flame and an EXTREMELY noisy blower. Thankfully, we got it hot enough in there and then shut it off and the place was well insulated enough to keep warm til morning. And here's another thing - have you ever heard of a RUG?? The fireplace is surrounded by acres of cheap laminate flooring and one goofy loveseat thing that is totally not conducive to snuggling by the fire. There was even laminate flooring used for the ceiling - seriously!
There were all sorts of rules emailed to us and there are signs all over the place warning you about EVERYTHING. I felt like I was at my mom's house. No, that's unkind - my mom was more chill than this. To top it all off, I had a $100 discount coupon that I bought for $25, and I still feel ripped-off. If I'd paid the full $195, I would have demanded my money back as soon as I saw the place.

The review is not for Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast but a totally separate business with a different vendors license, but the same owners. IT should not be posted on this site.
I have never stayed in a Motel 6 that offered a luxury, Roman-style Jacuzzi tub with big white pillars and tile surround, a peninsula fireplace (that was one of the most expensive offered in the store not a cheap unit), a pillow-soft mattress with 600 thread-count sheets, a rocking-reclining, Microsuede, Lazy-Boy love seat, Amish made bed and cabinets, luxury bath robes in the bathroom, and 5-star bath amenities. Other guests who have stayed in this cottage have commented that they loved the wood ceiling vs. drywall; loved the laminate flooring vs. carpet since it was more updated; felt totally pampered, and loved sitting on the porch and watching the horses grazing in the fields next door.
The Cottage is surrounded by Old Order and New Order Amish. On an average day there are horses and buggies going up and down the road. Some Amish farms have dairy cows and milk trucks are known to go up and down the road, as well as delivery trucks. Many guests that have stayed there have commented on how peaceful and relaxing they found their stay. There are apple trees next to the cottage to block the road somewhat and guests love to pick the apples and feed the horses that come up to the fence line. If the horse drops a pile on the other side of the fence it is out of our control. Also when the seasons change and the grass and flowers have died the field next door has dried grass, not fresh flowers just like your home would. However at the end of October there were still some beautiful fall colors on the trees. One guest who stayed last November just made a reservation to return to this cottage his November.
This cottage has 2 heat sources: a fireplace with a blower and a split system heating/air conditioning unit. When the weather got in the 20's and 30's at night and the guest set the thermostat to 75-80 degrees they can expect the blower on the fireplace to be on almost constantly. However they had the option of turning the fireplace off and turning on the split system. It sounds like the guests had trouble operating the fireplace since they referred to a wimpy blue flame. Unfortunately they never came to get the owners of the Cottage, who live on the same property, so that they could be reminded how to operate the heating and cooling system properly (and they were show how to operate it when they checked in). The guests were advised when they checked in that the owners were on call 24/7 and that all they had to do was ring a doorbell and get immediately help.
As the for email of rules...every lodging establishment has rules. Ours are plain and simple: No Smoking, No Pets, 2 adults per cottage/no children,No candles by order of the Fire Marshall, No coolers in the cottage on the hard wood floors (but a refrigerator is provided). There are 2 signs posted in the cottage: "Helpful Hints for Operating the Jacuzzi Tub" and "Please use these plastic bags provided for tampons, etc., to avoid clogging the septic system". The Helpful Hints are there because many people have never used a Jacuzzi tub before and do not understand things such as the water must be over the tallest jets before powering the tub on or water will spray all over the room.
This owner has stayed in more expensive places that have not offered the amenities that are in this cottage. It sounds as if this guest had a bad day and decided to ruin the reputation of one business in order to complain about another.

3 rooms for 2 nights -everything was so clean. Breakfast was delicious with a very nice variety. The bed linens were so comfortable. Great location for peace & quiet but close to Holmes County activities. Campfires are fun. Innkeepers are friendly and go out of their way to make sure everyone has a nice stay.

Don't miss this opportunity to stay right in the Amish community, close to Berlin, Millersburg, Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek but away from the hustle and bustle of daily traffic through the area. Beautiful scenic area. You won't regret staying here.

We had a weekend package that had a dinner in an Amish home then an evening with Wanda Brunstetter to talk about any of her books. She stayed at the B&B so we had breakfast with her also. The next day we had a concert with an accoustical guitarist. (Bud Preston) What an outstanding weekend . The B&B host couldn't have been nicer and the breakfasts they made were first class. The knowledge they have and the maps they provided for self driving tours made the days that much more enjoyable.
