Very nice restaurant /pub by a small river in a very small town in SW England. We sat outside during the first period of sunshine in several days. We didn't expect either the sun or the delicate sophisticated food. This place is a keeper.

This is a hidden treasure. The food is of a standard to do a first class London restaurant proud. Fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared and leaving an impression that there is a very gifted chef at work. Charming, friendly and in one of the most beautiful areas of the South-West, it is worth a detour and definitely worth visiting for dinner if you are in the area.

A really nice lunch with friends today. Never been before although we have passed it many times. The choices on the menu was sufficient for most people and a good wine list as well. The restaurant is small so bookings are a must and it's easy to find on the main road through Fonthill Bishop.
The set menu at £17.50 for two courses was excellent, the food is cooked fresh so don't go if you are in a hurry. We were able to mix a la carte and set which gave us more choice. The rib eye steak was excellent, rare for those who like a little blood and very tender, the nibbles of vegetable crisps with red pepper hummus were simply delicious.
Would We go back again, a resounding yes from all of us!

We stayed for one night (Saturday). There are 3 chalets at the back and ours was called Garden View, it was very clean and quiet. The Riverbarn is on the Fonthill Bishop estate and family run. The restaurant is cosy and actually doubles as a post office twice a week. We had a complimentary dish of flatbread with houmas and an aubergine based dip which were delicious. There were three choices of starter, main course and sweet, my wife had a crab Caesar followed by cheese soufflé and I had a mozzarella & tomato salad followed by rump of lamb. On paper these dishes do not sound particularly exceptional but the added extra ingredients, quality and presentation lifted them to another level. Puddings were equally good. A delicious freshly cooked breakfast completed a wonderful experience. Two glasses of wine, a cider and three courses each amounted to £79, including 10% added, money well spent. The hosts were a delightful, friendly couple whose two sons are the talented young chefs. We plan to revisit as soon as possible.

My partner and I stop here regularly on our way to the south west. It is our favourite place to stop. They serve coffee, lunch, and dinner on Thurs Fri and Sat night. It is a great place to have lunch. The interior has been recently decorated in brighter whites and creams but it has lost none of the cosy converted barn feel. The garden is perfect to sit in on a lovely day and the owners have added new tables and sunshades this year. The menu offers a good choice and reflects local produce. The owners are really friendly and although we aren't local, I was asked if I wanted my usual, chowder!
