Walking up, I felt the place was a little sketchy. It is located in an alley and the entry way seems a little less than appealing. I put in a carryout order. And although there were not a lot of patrons there, it took a little longer than expected. The chicken club sub was ok, but the onion rings I ordered were way over cooked. Even though this is a college town, and this was a college bar, it didn't seem to put much effort into the summer customers. The waitress was extremely nice though.

I liked this place. It is sort of hard to find, tucked back in an alley off Main St. The burgers were great, the wings were very good, and the service was great. If you go on Monday, wings are only .35!

This bar has been around since 1946 and it's still great food, nice people and good times. We ate here with young son and had sandwiches. Get the steak sandwich "a traditional" per the menu. It is so yummy with tomato sauce and mushrooms on a big hoagie roll. Have a beer, listen to the music and hang out.

I always find that returning home for the weekend is comforting and fun, but often find that my memories of certain places do not match the current experience. If possible, Mac and Joe's has improved. It's a great place to meet friends, as you can combine tables, and the volume there isn't so loud that you find yourself screaming over loud music and other conversations.

It was busy this weekend as Miami students were returning from Spring Break, and Miami was playing Conference in Hockey (VERY big deal at Miami) but we were able to find a booth right away.

It did take our server a little bit to get to our table, but he was nice and our food came out as ordered.

Being in Oxford as students were getting back into town, Miami playing hockey, and March Madness going on, my husband and I had to think about where we should go to eat. I wanted something casual, but did not want to feel deaf or overwhelmed after the meal. This bar was perfect. People made comments as exciting things happened in the hockey game, but it was only as things happened. The bar clearly understood that people were there to watch the game, but also wanted to be able to speak, as the game's volume was on at an audible volume, but not blaring nor was it competing with a loud juke box.

The restaurant is a bar, with a decent menu (think bar menu) at very reasonable prices. I got an appetizer that was a little overdone, but my husband got a sandwich that he said was great. For our food, plus a pitcher of beer, the tab was about $20, which I found to be very reasonable.

I would reccomend Mac and Joe's to anyone looking to have a nice, simple meal and a few beers. If you are thinking of going with a group over 6, I would highly recommend arriving a little early, as you can combine tables, but there aren't often many empty tables during or after dinner time.

As a side note, if you are there, make sure to look up in the "rafters" they have an great hockey display there. Along with that display, make sure to check out the wall decor. There is a lot of fun things hanging, Miami, beer and other semi-local reminders.
