“nice get away”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Nice lodge in the State Park. The room was nice and comfortable.
The grounds and surrounding area were very nice. there are some nice hiking trails in the area.
although some of the trails are listed as "moderate difficulty" they were very easy.
We were hoping that the Lodge had access to the lake but it did not.
Overall very nice.

We had our family celebration at Mohican and with seven granddaughters, we had a very nice experience. Lots to do, walking trails, and the swimming pool were highlights. The restaurant staff was friendly and attentive especially to our kids. Great time in God's wonderful creation.

Needed a place to take a work team for an overnight retreat. Mohican was a great choice. Our room rate in April was only about $100 and food costs were very reasonable. Having a few thousand acres to use for team building or quiet time was a huge bonus. The Lodge is 40 years old and shows its age just a bit. Everything is updated and well cared for. But the sleeping rooms are smaller than what you would expect in contemporary construction, the bathrooms are tiny and there are sections of sleeping rooms that are not handicapped accessible, a there are a few steps at the end of the hall.

The staff at the Lodge was fabulous. Phil, the Food and Beverage Director, was more of an innkeeper, taking great care of us, plugging into what we were doing and making sure we were well cared for.

All in all a great experience, and my group definitely wants to go back to Mohican next year.

We REALLY had a pleasant stay. The staff was wonderful. The food was really good. The sites were nice and fun. Just a very relaxing stay which is what we were looking for. A great get-away in the middle of the week!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the pool. Beyond the pool is a killer view of nature!

We stayed at the lodge for one night on a weekend in March. When we booked the room the lady at the front desk told us that they were almost sold out for that weekend so she couldn't guarantee our room request. When we arrived I was expecting a lot of people and noise, but to my surprise it wasn't as busy as we were anticipating. The drive there is very pleasant and we stopped and took some pictures by the Pleasant Hill Dam.

Check in was easy and after looking in our room and finding a small issue we were moved with no problems. The room itself was fairly clean and had a small refrigerator, flat screen television and patio doors that opened to a view of the trees and lake. The only thing I really didn't like about the room was the sound of the heater. When the heater wasn't on, the unit made an annoying hum that bothered me when trying to sleep. I'm very sensitive to sounds and a light sleeper though, so for most it might not be a problem.

We swam in the indoor pool which was nice and warm. My suggestion would be for the lodge to have an hour maybe after the pool closes deemed as adult swim so that those wanting to enjoy a swim can do so without all of the children that occupy the pool during the day. It was a little frustrating to say the least to try to take a relaxing swim when there were lots of children throwing pool toys and spraying water guns into the air.

We stayed in the common areas and played checkers on one of the tables they have set up near the fireplace. They offer game pieces at the front desk. We also sat in the rocking chairs by the fire which was relaxing. They have a ping pong table and a pool table set up in this common area as well. The bar is downstairs and several guests brought up their beer to the common area (I don’t know if this is allowed or not), but there were two couples who were a little ‘lively’ that did this and played pool right next to the ping pong table where young children were playing. It was a little uncomfortable; maybe they should place a pool table downstairs near the lounge so that the upstairs stays completely family friendly.

We ate at the lodge and even though there were children and a large party, the restaurant stayed very quiet and made for a relaxing dinner. The food was pretty good, although my husband’s steak was not cooked to what he ordered it was still enjoyable. When we entered the restaurant, we asked to be seated by the windows and the waitress told us she couldn't do that because she had to space out the wait staff. Ironically, the couple that came in directly behind us was seated right by the window. No big deal, just a slight annoyance. We ordered a pizza later that night from the lounge and it was okay, it tasted fine but was just your average frozen pizza.

We walked the path and liked that it was paved and lighted. The views are really pretty and I would like to come back in the summer to be able to walk around more. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. If you're looking for something to do in the area, Malabar state farm is about twenty minutes away and offers several things to do.
