The title says it all really but this picture of a town pub is NOT the Hare & Hounds in Stoughton! Outstanding beers, interesting and well prepared food, reasonable price.

This pub is a fantastic pub which does restaurant quality food, everything is homemade and was told by husband that the Liver and Bacon was the best he's ever tasted! The pasta dish of Leek, Mushroom and Pesto was gorgeous and such a lovely change from the usual pasta dish served with tomato sauce. Good portion sizes and very reasonable prices. Staff were very friendly and even though they were busy they didn't look flustered of harassed and had time to chat with you, will definitely be going again!!

A real country pub in an old unspoilt Sussex village - complete with very ancient Saxon church, some gorgeous old houses and a very small minor road - so not much traffic.
The pub has delicious Otter beer (amongst several other Real Ales) and a great local food menu.
A large outside garden with a view over the Downs - the perfect place to catch your breath on the wonderful circular route around Kingley Vale.

I understand the beer is excellent. I liked the wine list Marlborough Sav blanc served promptly at right temperature. My partridge was great & friends pheasant was good too would have found it easier to eat with better knives. Ham & chicken pie and sticky toffee pud really good.
