Our second stay at this hotel in Port Clinton. We were lucky to get reservations anywhere in this town, took a shot at Friday night with hopes of scoring the Saturday night pending a cancellation. We ended up in different rooms each night which was fine since the Friday night stay was in a very small (but spotlessly clean) King room. Next night we were moved (by staff, thank you) to a 2-Queen room which had a great street view and plenty of space. We found a great Portage river outdoor bar near the America's best Value hotel, and planted ourselves there for the evening listening to a guitarist play for the crowd that gathered there on a gorgeous summer night. What perfection.
By the way the beds in each room are the most comfortable and afford us and excellent nights sleep before heading off to Put in Bay.

Room Tip: Book in advance to score the best suite, located on the corner of the streetside. If booking a regu...

I stayed there last night and I cannot agree with other reviewers. They have made an attempt at upgrading the property which I understand because of its age can be daunting. The cleaning staff was nice, but the desk staff acted as though they had better places to be. There is no restaurant and no bar but no one tells you that at check-in. Both have been closed for some time with no future of reopening. The desk clerk indicated you need to let the hot water run a little while before it reaches your room. I turned it on at 7:30 a.m. and it's probably still running but not warm yet. The hotel offered nothing such as coffee or the general continental breakfast. Our room was so small you couldn't change your mind in it, although it was nicely decorated and it was nice and clean. If you plan to take their elevator pack your lunch it takes a while!

So - was it quaint etc? yes Was it a 160.00 a night Inn? No way!

I was in POrt Clinton for a weeding and while checking in, had the rudest experience a person ever had. The desk clerk was checking people in and handing out the gift bags that brought for wedding guest. The Manager was standing at one computer saying the groom didn't have enough rooms blocked to get his free room, and then said to Desk Clerk, just comp his rooms tired of putting up with the crap from this family, they were the one who stood and scream at me from across the desk. Does all the guest need to know this. Then she and a guy started hauling the gifts bags to the room next to the desk while telling the Desk Clerk she was to lazy to walk in there and that why she had them at front desk. AGAIN RUDE!!!! The desk clerk was very embarrassed by this whole situation and I know she told the Manager she was acting unprofessional, and please stop. They contiune to haul the bags away, and she did bring back like 5 bags and throw them on another part of the check-in desk.
The hotel is beautiful and clean, but the Manager is something ELSE.

Stayed on the 4th of July Quaint old historic hotel which comes with it's little quirks. Hot water takes awhile to get hot,and doesn't always stay hot. Drain in bathroom sink did not work properly. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Checked in and found the room we were given had not been cleaned at close to 4 in the afternoon. Front desk immediately gave us another room and apologized but seemed unaware that the room had not been cleaned /was not ready. Disappointed that the restaurant was not open, so we had to search the area for dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning. I thought that we would at least have coffee available in the morning but the only option was the in room coffee pot. We stayed at a Hilton Garden the week before for the same price with a king size bed (queen here) and an awesome breakfast so the value wasn't that good.Cute shops within walking distance and some nice restaurants and bars. Don't miss the Popcorn shop!

Room Tip: quite a lot of street/traffic noise in the back ,corner rooms

I had to come to Port Clinton for a wedding, and we were there 3 days, and Debbe checked us in and and was very helpful in leading us to great places to eat.She was very pleasent to all of us, especially the father of the bride not mentioning any names. The housekeeping does a excellant job, because our room was super clean. Kathy the manager was very busy with our group and made time for us all the while we knew she was busy doing other things, but when we had a question she stopped and answer, and the went back to her task at hand.
We are planning another trip so we can go Island Hopping as debbie recommended, no time for it this time, but we will be back and we will be staying at the Island House. So Kathy and Debbie be prepared again for our group from Michigan,

My wife and I stayed in a king room on July 1st. When we walked up to the front desk, none of the four people present greeted us. Finally a young man acknowledged us and attempted the check in. After 10 minutes he gave up due to computer problems and gave us our room keys. We inquired about the "Restaurant Closed" sign in the lobby. He stated the restaurant was closed until late July due to management problems. This was disappointing as we had planned on not having to leave the hotel that night. The room was one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in and everything was spotless, including the bathroom. The bath/shower was nice with a rain head type shower head, curved curtain rod, and a clear panel in the curtain to let in light.
After settling in, we decided to take a drive to find a restaurant for dinner. While out, we were caught in a severe thunderstorm. Upon returning to the hotel we noticed the large front door mat had been blown against the railing and was a trip hazard. Entering the lobby we could not find anyone to report this safety issue to.
Several hours later we left for dinner and the door mat was still against the railing. Again no one was at the front desk. During our stay we were never greeted by hotel staff as we entered and left.
As others have stated, the exterior of the hotel is in a state of disrepair. The location is ideal for trips on the Jet Express, but is in a sort of run down area. During our stay the staff was either inattentive or nonexistent.
We had a pleasant surprise after checking out (again, no one at the front desk) - the Coffee Express, a stone's throw from the hotel. Excellent coffee and pastries and very friendly and helpful staff. Certainly one of the finest coffee shops I have been in. They should be running The Island House!

Great place to stay. Very close to food and fun. It is a short walk to the jet express. There are several restaurants that are near the hotel.
Great rooms with nice beds!
