“Glenlaurel without Michael?”
Reviewed 8 May 2011

What is Glenlaurel Inn without its original innkeeper and owner? It remains a fine Inn with the pleasant ambiance of Scotland thanks to the staff that remains faithful to the vision inspired by Michael. With that said, Michael's absence is clearly felt by those of us who were deeply touched by his gracious hospitality. With a few lines of prose, Michael would awaken within his guests "the legend of Glenlaurel" . . . an enchanting world that deeply resonated in our hearts, enriching our lives with a beauty rarely experienced today. Without Michael, Glenlaurel remains a fine Inn but one without the dream and dreamer who made it possible.

Glenlaurel's spirit is alive and the original dream still grows. The gracious staff and owners strive to continue the ambiance that was originally created by Michael. Even though the dreamer is no longer at Glenlaurel, the dream is still alive and continues to grow. Change is inevitable, but the original vision is still what makes Glenlaurel so special.

We have stayed 14 nights now and plan to stay many more. My wife and I spent our honeymoon there and both of our anniversaries and no doubt will spend our third. It is hard to imagine a more perfect place to get away.

This Inn has service down! The staff is impeccable in every way. The rooms are clean, charming, spacious and comfortable. Plus, so quiet. The food is delicious and they can do vegetarian/vegan if requested in advance. The grounds are nice with a lovely hiking trails. I will return again and again to Glen Laurel.

We had stayed several years ago at Glenlaurel in their manor house, and left with not much of an impression. This time we booked a cottage and the experience was totally different. It was very clean and had great views of the hilly areas with huge trees. We loved the outdoor hot tub and the ambiance of the piped music outside while in the hot tub. We saw at least 20 deer no kidding running around playing on the property. We took a short walk and saw beautiful frozen waterfalls on the grounds. The state parks are close for hiking which we also enjoyed and combined with warm sunny weather at least for january in ohio it made for an awesome time. We did have dinner in their acclaimed restraunt one evening, it was nice but not really spectacular or in our opinion worth the hefty price for what we got. Would probably skip it next time...Inn at Cedar Falls has a comparable dinner with a choice from the menu not a set menu for about half the price. I thnk the glenlaurel would be well served to have a more diverse menu, only complaint...which isnt really a complaint. The breakfast were terriffic and the wait staff were very pleasant. All in all a fantastic trip to hocking hills...we normally would stay at Ravenwood Castle but after staying in a cottage at the glenlaurel we would only return here. It really was awesome. Cant recommend it enough...where else can you drive one hour from columbus and yet be transported miles away...loved it!

Since our first stay in 2004, we have visited for 13 nights. You would believe you were in Scotland, if you allow yourself. Everything about Glenlaurel is wonderful, and you could not possibly be disappointed. Yes, it is a bit pricey, especially for us retired folk, but we just save for it....and watch for specials. It is a haven in the beautiful Hocking area, based on a "dream," and you will become part of it forever, once you visit.....be assured. :D

We had a weekend away with no children and could not have chosen a more perfect location. The Inn is located right on the gorge with beautiful hiking trails steps from our room. The food was to die for, with their breakfast (which was included with the room) you didn't need lunch and the dinner was a 5* dining experience with wonderful ombiance (we were piped into dinner and then the owner welcomed everyone and quoted Robbie Burns to set the very romantic mood). They are in a dry community in Hocking Hills so they can't sell alcohol, but they tell you this up front and suggest you bring your own wine/beer. The really nice thing about this is the savings in cost from having to purchase restaurant alcohol. They also serve you the alcohol so it doesn't alter the mood. We will definitly return.

Glenlaurel is an experience like no other. From the time that we registred it was as if we stepped back into a quiet non-hectic world. Guest are treated like a favorite relative. Dinners are prepared fresh, nothing out of a box etc. here, top notch chef with a wait staff I wanted to bring home.

Our croft was just perfect, with a living room, eating area, bedroom and nice size bathroom. They have celtic cd's that just add that perfect atmosphere.

On the back of the croft is a screened in porch that is perched above part of the gorge, on the other side of the porch in a 2 person hot tub. They allow you to use their cozy robes to wrap in.

I felt like I was in Brigadoon. On Saturday night Michael the Inn Keeper dressed in full scottish fare. He had a wonderful harpist playing during 1/2 hour prior to dinner and then through most of the meal.

There was not one thing that we had a problem with.

We were celebrating our 30th anniv. and we will now make this an annual destination
