“OVER PRICED AND GOLF COURSE IS A COW PASTURE”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2012

First Let me say the GOLF COURSE is THE HOKIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. You Charge $25 per round to play that course. I get your trying something different but $25 per round for an. 8 hole cow pasture. greens were DIRT not sand and BUMPY. You have to buy special golf ballsand use wood shafted clubs. Dinner was ok . Not worth $100. Cottages were ok but not worth $350 PER NIGHT . You nned to reavaluate your whole program. Too expensive. SORRY

We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay.

It was our goal to create an original links-style course, mimicking one of the 1800’s. It is not intended to be a modern-day course with manicured greens and tees. We wanted to bring this historic golf experience to the beautiful Hocking Hills and feel we have accomplished this with the assistance of world-renowned golf architects, Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dr. Chris Hurdzan, from Hurdzan/Fry Environmental Golf Course Design. The $24 charge includes the use of four original hickory shaft clubs, 3 golf balls, and a score card.

Regarding our menu, we take pride in all the selections and our candlelit dinner service is second to none – as quoted by many of our guests. The price for a six-course candlelit meal is $98 and the seven-course meal is $118 and includes all non-alcoholic beverages (coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks); we feel this price is agreeable and below other market costs for a similar meal.

This review is specific to the restaurant/pub at Glenlaurel Inn. My wife and I were just here as part of an anniversary get away. We wanted to try a "fine dining" experience and we found it at Glenlaurel. We had an amazingly delicious 7 course meal. The beef and chicken were both amazing! The chef for the night, Eric, even came out to speak to each of the guests after dinner was over. Service was amazing and I have no complaints what so ever! Sure its a little pricey, but sometimes you just have to splurge for a good time.

My wife and I received a $350 gift certificate for a wedding present two years ago and we used it this weekend. We have had a mostly relaxing weekend but will not be back. Our impression was not initially high of Glen Laurel. We originally booked our trip in December as a "pregnancy getaway". Several weeks before our trip, my wife was put on bed rest. Glen Laurel hit us with a fee... Even though I was willing fax medical records to prove it.

Staff- 5 out of 5 on the staff! they were incredibly friendly and eager to serve. They made us feel very welcome

Room- we stayed in the MacGregor room. Understand, we have a 4 month old at home so we were looking forward to sleeping in. This room is beside the kitchen and we could here every conversation and clanging dish. I felt as though we were being punished for not having money to upgrade

Food- we had dinner last night and the meal cost us over $100. The service was excellent but the food was mediocre. It certainly is not worth $100. The complimentary breakfast was amazing!

Golf- don't waste your time bringing clubs. The fairways are mowed patches in a field and the greens are browns.... Not brown grass.... Brown dirt.

Scenery- the trails are beautiful! You can take nice walks on secluded paths... With no one around

Room amenities- they have wifi which is great... But cell phone service is nearly impossible. The rooms are very clean and the bed is comfortable! Bring a laptop for movies... They charge you to rent a Tv (yes i am serious).

Again... The place is nice but we won't be back. It is over priced, nickel and dime you, and we couldn't sleep in.

Jason, we first want to thank you and your wife for being our guests at Glenlaurel. We value your opinion and strive to always make Glenlaurel a more special experience for all of our guests.

Because of our size, cancellations affect us significantly. Therefore, when cancelling or changing a reservation with less than 14 days, guests will be charged for one night’s stay plus a $30 processing fee. Your reservation was changed 12 days prior to your scheduled arrival and we only charged you $30.

We are committed to our guest’s satisfaction and like to maintain high standards. We agree with you about the noise level from the kitchen and we sincerely apologize. We have addressed this issue with the kitchen staff and are working on adding sound barrier.

Regarding our menu, we take great pride in all the selections, preparations and service that we offer. We get many guests who are blown away by our level of service and the European style of food that we serve. Glenlaurel is fortunate to have a stellar staff and our chef’s take great pride in preparing a delectable menu. The price for a six-course candlelit meal is $98 and the seven-course candlelit meal is $118 and all non-alcoholic beverages are included (coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks) and we feel this price is agreeable and below other market costs for a similar meal.

In regards to our Scottish Links Golf Course, it was our goal to create an original links-style course, mimicking one of the 1800’s.

Glenlaurel is situated in the heart of Hocking Hills and surrounded by vast forests. Cellular service is spotty and can be limited in many locations; most guests traveling to the Hocking Hills are aware of this. Unfortunately there isn’t a way for us to cure the lack of connection. However, all accommodations do have land line phones and you may be reached directly in your room.

We sincerely hope you will consider visiting Glenlaurel again so you can receive the welcome and experience you expected during your first visit.

My wife and I visited Memorial Day weekend. The seven course Saturday night dinner was excellent beyond description. The quality and quantity of the food was perfect. Our room in the inn was furnished comfortably. Breakfast was fresh and wonderful. The air conditioning in our room malfunctioned and the situation was gracefully handled by the staff. We would definitely return if the chance arises.

Fabulous! Thank you so much for your visit and your feedback. We’re so glad you were able to treat yourselves to a special stay and to our 7-course dinner. We are very lucky to have a gracious staff and a chef who takes pride in his work!

We sincerely apologize for the lack of air conditioning. We strive to have working pieces & parts, but there are times when things can’t be fixed as quickly as we’d like. We appreciate your understanding and are glad everything else was to your liking…and beyond your expectations.
We look forward to having you as our guests again! Thank you for such kind words.

We really enjoyed the beautiful grounds and the style of the simple crofts. We only had breakfast and it was adequate, though the omelet did not taste like real eggs, more of an egg beaters type product. We did a lot of hiking and the grounds are spectacular. The croft that we stayed in (Elliot) looked beautiful but bed and furniture old, worn and uncomfortable. also puzzled why some very basic things were not attended to, we were only given one coffee filter, the second day we had to improvise with a paper towel. Also the shortbread that they make a big deal about was not replaced after our first day. I know these things seem minor but since Glenlaurel advertises this one would think they would follow through. the hot tub was a weird configuration and not at all comfortable. For the price these items should be attended to.

First of all, we want to thank you for being our guests at Glenlaurel Inn. We're sorry that you felt the omelet did not taste like real eggs. We only use fresh ingredients and that certainly is not the memory we want you to have of our breakfast. We are committed to our guest’s satisfaction and like to maintain high standards. We're sorry that you felt let down by our accommodations in the Elliott Croft. We strive to maintain all of our accommodations with current and updated accessories and furniture and are concerned about your comments about old, worn, and uncomfortable furniture. We agree with you about the mattress and plan to replace that this year. As for the coffee filters and shortbread cookies, we apologize for this and agree it should have been restocked. We have addressed this issue with the housekeeping manager and staff. We sincerely hope you will consider visiting Glenlaurel Inn again so that you can receive the welcome and experience you expected during your first visit.

My wife and I had dinner in the hotel's restaurant, even though we were not staying there overnight. The service was fantastic and the food was beautiful and delicious. The chef prepares a 6 or 7 course meal every night. Six courses is just $49 per person which is good for the quality and accompanying atmosphere.

Be sure to reserve a week ahead of time.

It is a dry township, so they do not sell alcohol but will serve whatever wine you bring.

Thank you so much for your visit and your feedback. We’re so glad you were able to treat yourselves to a special dinner at Glenlaurel. We are so lucky to have a gracious staff and a chef who takes pride in his work! We do accept reservations 24 hours ahead of your arrival (for dinner), however during busier times (holidays, weekends, and during the month of October), we suggest calling 2-5 days ahead to ensure we have a spot for you. Since your visit, we received our liquor license and now offer a nice selection of beer, wine and scotch. We look forward to having you as our guests again to experience our recent upgrades at the property.
