“Fourth Visit to Kalahari!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2013

This was our fourth stay at the Sandusky Kalahari and we just can't say enough about it. We are in Maryland and it takes us six hours to get there, but well worth the drive. We have stayed one night, two nights and then the last two times we have stayed three nights. We have found that three nights is perfect for us. We arrived on Monday and left on Thursday this time. We find the crowds are lower Tuesday through Friday, especially at the beginning of June, when we normally go. The last two times we have stayed in an African Queen Suite on the first floor. These rooms are located in the wing closest to the waterpark, so it's easy to get around.

We have a fourteen year old daughter and she brings her friend along. This time we felt very comfortable in letting them go on their way and to meet up with them eventually. The girls feel safe and we are happy to have alone adult time. The girls knew where to find us...the adult swim-up pool bar/hot tub! We spent four hours in there on Monday afternoon alone. It is relaxing and nice. My only complaint would be that there isn't any shade back there. But, otherwise, it is the best place in the park. We bought one of the refillable cups for alcohol the last time we were there, two years ago, and when you buy it, you can keep bringing it back, so we carted it back with us from MD and used it many times on this trip.

Our girls love the ziplines outside and we were so happy those passes were added to the "Create Your Own Adventure" package, which saved us $50.

I can't say enough about the room, it is perfect. It's like getting two regular rooms so that my husband and I could have privacy in our room with a private bathroom and then the girls had their own room and a bathroom and TV to themselves, too.

The only other thing I would like to see is a "royalty" or "frequent visitor" program. This is our fourth visit and we are anxious for the Poconos, PA location to open in two years, so it would be nice if we got an extra discount or extra amenities.

Otherwise, we absolutely LOVE Kalahari!

Room Tip: Check the website to see the room layouts. The reservation people on the phone are very helpful and...

Thank you for coming back so frequently. I am happy to hear your daughter and her friends always have such a great time and feel safe at our Resort. The swim-up bar is a great place to relax and have some adult time while still enjoying the comfort of the Waterpark. When our Poconos location opens, we will be thrilled to have you join us there and your driving time will probably be cut in half! Enjoy the rest of your summer.

We had a fabulous experience at the Kalahari in Sandusky, OH. The rooms, halls, and pool are were very clean. The people were very friendly and the staff were not only friendly but very attentive. The outdoor Rock climbing, ziplining and zoo are a must to experience. Everything is right there on the premises and your going to love it. There is an extra charge for these but it's something you shouldn't pass up. I recommend the 2 bedroom suites for large families and don't leave without getting something from the Sweet hut!! Yum!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor are great. I recommended asking for a balcony. Very relaxing at night after t...

Wow, it sounds like you had a great time at not only the Waterpark, but the Outdoor Adventure Park too! I agree with the title of your review because I want to move in also. And yes, those treats from the Candy Hut (Sweet Hut at our Wisconsin Resort) are so dreamy. I could munch on those all day.

we were greeted by friendly staff. Our room was ready early. The waterpark was great and very clean. We enjoyed the interaction the employees had with the guests at the waterpark. There was a lot of walking throughout the resort but enjoyed every minute of it. My daughter really enjoyed the animals. We went on a Monday and Tuesday and it wasn't really busy. The rooms were very clean and I loved the refrigerator in the room. The only issue we had was the bathroom door handle fell off and it was fixed right away after notifying the front desk. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone. Thanks Kalahari for a great time.

Room Tip: definitely get the family getaway package. It is well worth it. saves you money. If you don't li...

Thank you for sharing the experience your family had while visiting Kalahari. I love it when guests are able to check-in early and get their vacation started. I hope you were able to make it down to the waterpark and try a few slides during your stay. Thanks again for the review. Take care.

First time to Kalahari and initial impressions upon arrival were awful. One of the great perks advertised is the ability to check in early on your day of arrival which we intended to do. Upon arrival we were directed to the Sands lobby. There were people everywhere, carts filled with belongings lined every wall and the line wrapped around the gift shop. We waited close to an hour to actually check in. We were told our room wasn't ready which was fine but then we were told that once we called from a black phone (located all around the resort) and told our room was ready we would have to wait in that same line to get our room keys! Really? Since the lobby seemed to be mad chaos with Colosalcon attendees and the trip wasn't anything we expected we decided to leave the premises and head further down the road to have a sit down lunch . Our room was ready by the time we checked at 4:30 and we waited in line another 35 minutes to get our keys. After we left the lobby and got to our room everything changed and we had a great time. Our room (combination suite) exceeded my expectations and the housekeeping staff were the friendliest I have ever encountered. I have two boys ages 8 and 7 and they loved the zip line, ropes course and rock wall. The waterpark was fabulous. It was overcrowded on both Sunday and Monday but the crowds thinned out the rest of the stay and the boys rode each slide several times with very minimal wait. I definitely recommend getting to the waterpark when it opens and try to avoid peak times, if they are known. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back but I will definitely put more thought into our arrival and hope for a smoother registration.

Room Tip: Combination suites are great for multiple families.

We're so thrilled that you gave us a try! Thank you so much for not only coming to visit, but taking a moment to review us. We very much love and appreciate the feedback. While I am discourage to hear that check in did not go so smoothly, in the end, the family had a blast! I will be sure to address out process of check in specifically during times like Colossalcon. Hopefully when you return, you will have a breeze through check in. If we can help prior in anyway, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are looking forward to seeing the family again soon! Take care!

We couldn't have asked for a better time than we had at the Kalahari. We stayed overnight on a Tuesday in June (wished it could have been more) with our 2 granddaughters and had a terrific time! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our room was ready when we got there around 1:oo. We dropped our bags, changed into our suits and off we went. Our room was awesome, The bathroom huge! We found soo much to do. We really would have like to stay longer to do all that was offered. We really enjoyed the lazy river and the wave pool the best. The Waterslide that looks like you are going down a drain was fun too! The only downfall was the food prices. $9.00 for a cheeseburger! Otherwise our stay was Super!! Would highly recommend!!! :)

I'm happy to hear you took advantage of America's Largest Indoor Waterpark almost right when you got to the Resort! Also I'm happy the room was satisfactory. I hope you were able to try some of the dry activities during your stay like mini golf, the game rooms and even the Outdoor Adventure Park. The waterslide that looks like a drain, the Tanzanian Twister is one of my favorite rides as well! Thanks for the review and we'll see you again soon.

We had a great time visiting Kalahari for the first time. We were so impressed with the cleanliness of the overall resort and how customer service focused all the staff was throughout our stay. I think it was the most polite and engaging staff I have ever met. The light in our bathroom burned out and someone was up within minutes and was so polite. We did receive a free room upgrade which was a great surprise and was great for our family, it really amde our stay.

We went during the week which was great, it didn't feel crowded at all and the outside park was open (our son loved this area the most). We have a toddler and there was so much for him to do even for his young age group. I spent most of the time with our newborn and the entire resort very easy to navigate with a stroller including the water park areas which I was worried about. The food at the restaurants was good and not too expensive. We also enjoyed that the parents were permitted to carry drinks through most of the resort! We will definitely be returning hopefully soon in the future.

Thank you for the awesome review! We train our staff extremely well and strive to make sure you have the best experience while visiting Kalahari. While at the outside park, I hope you and your son visited the Animal Park and pet some exotic animals. We also allow you to help feed them too. Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer.

We stayed at Kalahari for two days in June, and overall, we had a positive experience. Our check in went smoothly. We did not have to wait very long. We arrived before the check in time and our room was not ready. It was ready before 4:00, though. We did not experience any of the long wait times or other issues other reviewers note for registration.

Our room was good and larger than I expected. We had two double beds and a sleeper sofa. The room also featured a microwave, fridge, balcony, and fireplace. The fridge did not chill a lot, so we did not keep anything perishable in it, but it kept our drinks cool. The fireplace was a nice, and we turned it on for a short time each evening.

The water park itself is excellent. We enjoyed all of the water slides, and we especially liked that there are a number of slides where multiple people can go at once. We enjoyed being able to go on rides as a family. The wave pool was another favorite for all of us, as was the lazy river. We have been to a couple of different water parks, and the lazy river here is the best we have experienced. Our 12 year old loved all the slides and activities at the water park.

Kalahari features a number of restaurants. We ate two meals at the resort. The first was at the Safari Grill in the watermark, and I would not recommend it. The food--basic burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches--was only average, and the prices are high. On our second night, new had pizza delivered to our room, and we enjoyed this more. The quality and taste of the pizza was good--certainly better than I expected it to be.

Overall, we had a great time at Kalahari.

Thank you for taking the time to review Kalahari Resort. I am so glad your family enjoyed America's Largest Indoor Waterpark and especially the lazy river. I always enjoy kicking back and just taking some time to free my mind while floating down the lazy river. We hope to see you back again soon. Thanks again for the review!
