“A large park with a variety of trails, scenery, and wildlife”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Toledo's metroparks are its greatest asset, and Oak Openings is the largest and most interesting of them all. There are numerous well-maintained hiking trails, including one over 15 miles long, and a long horse-riding trail, two large lakes and some smaller ponds and wetlands, Swan Creek (actually a small river) and numerous smaller creeks, sand dunes, many deer and other mammals, lots of birds and other animals, a wide variety of trees and other plants.

This park is absolutely stunning! If you live in northwest Ohio or if your traveling here and you haven't been to this place your missing out...there are lots of tall oak trees that are reaching for the sky and Pine forests and endless trails to explore. Seriously check this place out you won't regret it!

“Stupendous. Enormous. Gorgeous.”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

We came here to bird, as it's often mentioned as a side-trip to the much more famous Magee Marsh Important Bird Area over on the shore of Lake Erie. But at least in late September, Oak Openings was far more productive bird-wise. Plus the area has better visitor facilities, a much wider variety of habitats, and is far bigger than Magee Marsh proper.

“By far, the best of the Metroparks”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

The only one of the metroparks in which you can hike for a couple hours without seeing another person. It can get a little crowded around the Mallard Lake area, but the scout trails, horse trails, and fire roads are delightful to walk, with a variety of habitats, and many rare species.

“Oak Openings”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Great metropark! Nice trails for walking, horseback riding, and biking. Includes a pine forest, a sand dunes area, and a fishing lake just for kids. Lodge is available for meetings and private parties. Out in the country so the air is good. Not at all crowded.
