“very good”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

liked everything about the hotel, lovely room, very good food and nice staff. Free parking and Wi Fi always a bonus! Will be returning to see the lovely garden in its full glory in the summer .Surprised to have read review from people who stayed in room 1, which was next to the room we stayed in, as on arrival the room was very warm( we had to turn heating down) and we left the radiator off in the bathroom during our stay.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 2 on the ground floor which was perfect. Nice sitting area with settee.

Arrived on Sunday 16th February 2014 having booked Bed and Breakfast for £119 as a treat for my mother. I had high expectations based on the reviews I'd read and local knowledge but as it transpired it represented poor value for money. Sunday lunch however was good: Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding with a good selection of vegetables. We particularly liked the red cabbage with star anise. Shared a delicious trio of desserts and looked forward to a lazy afternoon with the news papers. By late afternoon the lounge area had begun to cool down so we decided to head for our room, a twin room on the ground floor. Room one is very spacious with a good hospitality tray and a large wet room. It overlooks the front courtyard. The bedroom was cold so we asked for the heating to be turned up which it was. The absence of radiators indicated underfloor heating but as the bedroom got warmer the bathroom remained stubbornly cold. We switched on the towel rail- hoping that the underfloor heating would eventually kick in and the bathroom warm up. It didn't. As a room with two external walls it remained cold and uninviting. I'm glad I'd packed my slippers. The lack of heating in the bathroom was reported to reception in the morning - who said there was nothing they could do but promised that I would be contacted on Tuesday by one of the Managers. I'm still waiting for that elusive phone call. We had a very enjoyable - but much earlier breakfast than planned- of home made granola followed by a perfectly cooked poached egg with mushrooms and tomato on toast.
On the strength of the food and the good service we received from staff in the restaurant, we are returning in June to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Would I book another overnight stay? No. Would I recommend the hotel accommodation? No.
But I do recommend the food and the good service we received from the restaurant staff.

Thank you for your review of the hotel. I am very sorry that there was a problem with the heating in the bathroom of the bedroom that you occupied. As I explained to you when we spoke on the telephone, the bedroom and bathroom are both heated with under-floor heating; there is a thermostat in the bedroom that can be adjusted. Although you spoke to our reception manager on Sunday and the thermostat was adjusted it was evidently not altered sufficiently to affect the bathroom. As no further comment was made we assumed that the matter had been rectified. There have been no problems with the heating in the bedroom and bathroom in the past but as that particular room can also be adapted for the use of disabled persons I am grateful that you have brought the matter to our attention. The heating now seems to be working efficiently.
I am very glad that you were pleased with the other aspects of your stay at The Grange and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Grange in June.

Wonderful friendly hotel. Arrived late, 15 mins after last orders for dinner and chef agreed to take our order. So good, we had dinner there on the following evening. Lovely breakfasts, very friendly staff. Large room with en-suite shower room, very clean. Only downside was that the mattress was a spring type and we are used to foam so found it very bouncy! Very quiet, country location.

What can I say about the grange from start to finish fantastic customer service nothing was ever to much trouble.
Arrived early to book in but that wasn't an issue more then helpful took my case to the room and even made sure I had a table book for the evening meal.
The room was clean and added extra was a very nice touch and good to see that a small place like this still has them.
Evening meal was lovely and not rushed the over all very relaxing and inviting
Whilst I was relaxing in bed a lovely card came under the door wishing me a good night and weather for tomorrow.
Breakfast was lovely freshly made to order and the dining room was clean but busy
Over all stay brilliant will not hesitate in staying here again for business or personal
Well done to management and staff at the grange

We went to The Grange for the weekend to celebrate our friends birthday and chose this as it was a Best Western and had read the previous good reviews.
What can I say it exceeded our high expectations in all ways.
We were checked in promptly and went straight to our room that was spotless and welcoming. The evening was superb as we had drinks in the bar by the log fire giving such a warm and pleasant atmosphere. We were greeted by the Manager and then taken to our table where we had the most devine 3 course meal which was from a varied menu and cooked to perfection.
The following morning we had a breakfast served and cooked to order in the restaurant that overlooks well kept and lovely gardens.
Unfortunately we only stayed one night but I am sure well visit in the not too distant future.
Thank you to all the staff and management that made a memorable weekend.

If you choose to take a break in Dorset, The Grange at Oborne is a great choice. We found the staff gracious, our room clean and nicely appointed with great views over the surrounding countryside and the overall ambience welcoming.

We enjoyed our breakfasts and our evening meal was great. Relaxing in the lounge after dinner was lovely with the log burning fire and cosy setting. There are some nice walks (we chose a circular walk) to do from the property and a visit to Sherborne is a must.

Highly recommended!

Thanks to you all for a great Christmas break. The service and attention was first class and we would highly recommend this hotel. Its location is in the heart of beautiful countryside yet the coast is only a short drive. The owners go out of their way to ensure that visitors time spent with them in the hotel is really important. The food is amazing and the rooms are very comfortable. Cannot praise it highly enough. Thank you again and all the best for 2014. Richard and Veronica.
