This Hotel is tucked away in a beautiful part of Dorset, very peaceful and relaxing. My room was lovely, spacious with a fantastic view of the garden from the large glass window. Welcome book with quirky little touches in it. Dinner was delicious, really didn't know what to chose off the menu as it all read so well. Breakfast also couldn't be faulted, freshly cooked and also an amazing array of fruit, cereal, nuts etc. Before I left I had a card under the door to prepare me for the days weather !! Staff were lovely. Loved it

We met up here for a late 'Christmas' get together. The staff were all very friendly, the service was excellent, our first floor room was very comfortable if a little warm (however that was easily remedied by turning down the rad thermostat) and had a nicely appointed traditional bathroom. Some of the others in our party had the modern wet rooms. We also had a member with mobility issues and the disabled access/facilities were very good. The evening meal choices were varied and the food very well presented and the breakfast menu was also good.
Would definitely recommend and would like to return.

A group of 14 of us have just spent a very enjoyable 36 hours here. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, the food was excellent and the service was faultless. All members of staff were cheerful, friendly and attentive. The hotel had a real homely feel about it. Would definitely like to make a return visit.

We visited for the Shaftsbury Snowdrop Festival and had stayed before. The hotel is friendly and welcoming. The room we had on the ground floor was large and spacious. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the location is just outside Sherborne but with a rural feel. The owners pay great attention to all the small details that make a stay worthwhile and the food from breakfast to dinner is consistently excellent.

liked everything about the hotel, lovely room, very good food and nice staff. Free parking and Wi Fi always a bonus! Will be returning to see the lovely garden in its full glory in the summer .Surprised to have read review from people who stayed in room 1, which was next to the room we stayed in, as on arrival the room was very warm( we had to turn heating down) and we left the radiator off in the bathroom during our stay.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 2 on the ground floor which was perfect. Nice sitting area with settee.

Reviewed 20 February 2014

Arrived on Sunday 16th February 2014 having booked Bed and Breakfast for £119 as a treat for my mother. I had high expectations based on the reviews I'd read and local knowledge but as it transpired it represented poor value for money. Sunday lunch however was good: Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding with a good selection of vegetables. We particularly liked the red cabbage with star anise. Shared a delicious trio of desserts and looked forward to a lazy afternoon with the news papers. By late afternoon the lounge area had begun to cool down so we decided to head for our room, a twin room on the ground floor. Room one is very spacious with a good hospitality tray and a large wet room. It overlooks the front courtyard. The bedroom was cold so we asked for the heating to be turned up which it was. The absence of radiators indicated underfloor heating but as the bedroom got warmer the bathroom remained stubbornly cold. We switched on the towel rail- hoping that the underfloor heating would eventually kick in and the bathroom warm up. It didn't. As a room with two external walls it remained cold and uninviting. I'm glad I'd packed my slippers. The lack of heating in the bathroom was reported to reception in the morning - who said there was nothing they could do but promised that I would be contacted on Tuesday by one of the Managers. I'm still waiting for that elusive phone call. We had a very enjoyable - but much earlier breakfast than planned- of home made granola followed by a perfectly cooked poached egg with mushrooms and tomato on toast.
On the strength of the food and the good service we received from staff in the restaurant, we are returning in June to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Would I book another overnight stay? No. Would I recommend the hotel accommodation? No.
But I do recommend the food and the good service we received from the restaurant staff.

Thank you for your review of the hotel. I am very sorry that there was a problem with the heating in the bathroom of the bedroom that you occupied. As I explained to you when we spoke on the telephone, the bedroom and bathroom are both heated with under-floor heating; there is a thermostat in the bedroom that can be adjusted. Although you spoke to our reception manager on Sunday and the thermostat was adjusted it was evidently not altered sufficiently to affect the bathroom. As no further comment was made we assumed that the matter had been rectified. There have been no problems with the heating in the bedroom and bathroom in the past but as that particular room can also be adapted for the use of disabled persons I am grateful that you have brought the matter to our attention. The heating now seems to be working efficiently.
I am very glad that you were pleased with the other aspects of your stay at The Grange and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Grange in June.
