We stayed for 3 nights at the Grange hotel in Mid February, over all it was a very pleasant stay. We had a deluxe room with a four poster bed, which if I'm honest is style over substance, we found the wooden frame around the bed a bit uncomfortable getting in and out, another little problem with the room is the position of the sofa which was adjacent to the television set, so it wasn't comfortable for 2 people to sit on the sofa and watch the tv together, but apart from these minor niggles, the room was delightfully quirky, well heated, with a beautiful fully tiled bathroom, a large terrace balcony over looking the gardens, which must be wonderful to use during the warmer months. The room was spotlessly clean, soft fluffy toweling robes and slippers had been supplied, which were much appreciated. there was a good mix of tea's coffees and biscuits, with a really nice coffee machine, bottle water was supplied, this was a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant for all 3 evening as the hotel is very much out in the sticks and the nearest village was Sherborne (approx 5 miles drive) which would have meant getting the car out, and negotiating, dark narrow country lanes that we weren't familiar with. the food at the Grange restaurant was good quality, and well presented, but the choice was a little limited. I was a bit disappointed to find out on the morning we left that there was a 2nd Menu (Grazing Menu) with less of a fine dining character (sausage and mash, ham egg and chips etc) which we weren't offered as an alternative to the main menu, I would have appreciated having more choices, especially as I ended up having the chicken dish 2 consecutive nights as I couldn't find an alternative on the main menu that I liked. The breakfasts were adequate, with plenty of cereals and fruit and toast on offer, We didn't have the cooked option, my only comment would be the ones I saw being served to other guests looked lost on the over sized plates that they were being delivered on. The staff were all great, very friendly and most welcoming, Sarah our evening waitress was lovely, very efficient, very pleasant, and very attentive but not in anyway intrusive. equally the breakfast waitress who's name I didn't get (she spoke flawless English with a charming accent, possible French) was equally pleasant and professional. All in all we found the Grange to be a very pleasant place to stay and if we find ourselves in that part of Dorset again we wouldn't hesitate to go back for another stay.More
