The Mahoning Valley was best known first for its coal, then iron, then steel production. This museum's exhibits explore all of these, as well as the conditions in which the worker lived.

My father spent 42 years @ Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. Campbell Works as a blower foreman / shift supervisor in the Blast Furnaces so the details and production of iron was well known to me as a younger. Mill talk was just part of the mealtime conversations. I spent 3 summers at college working in the mill in maintenance and saw a lot of the Campbell Works.

When visiting the museum I am always amazed at the scope and details of the displays of both the iron / steel making processes and the life of mill workers throughout the history of steel in the Valley. I even see relatives and my father's friends in the photgraphs on display.

The display of mill lockerrooms just fills the viewer's mind as to how things have changed and not changed the mills and people lives over 80 years of Valley steel.

Valley people and others can really see and feel how life was over that period and possibly see one or something that related to their life or that of their parents / grandparents.

I am now living in my parent's house (purchased in 1950) where I grew up in the Buckeye Plat housing development by YS&T. I found out that this house was a Type H by a display hanging in the meseum titled "Welfare Capitalism".

Go and find something(s) fascinating.

Great museum to learn about US industrial history. The archives include valuable collections. It is located directly across from the Cathedral of St Columba which is also part of the story of the Ecumenical Coalition that was involved in a possible worker and community owned steel mill . Excellent review through its exhibits on industrial processes and the history of labor management relations.

hard to believe that this place is in Youngstown, it's more like a big-city museum, extremely well done. We really enjoyed all the exhibits and will return again.

This is a wonderful and necessary museum dedicated to industry in NE Ohio. The museum describes immigration and the imapct of labor on the valley. It has many displays and artifacts from the local steel mills. The museum captures the lives of the working class and importance to Ohio and national history. It is a great place for school groups, adults and even young people. I've taken history classes and visited independently with family. It's worth the visit. The staff is also very resourceful and helpful for tours and research
