Owner description: Historic home of William Fremont Harn who came to Oklahoma Territory as a Federal Agent to settle Land Run disputes in 1891. The Harn House was built in 1904 when he and Mrs. Alice Moores Harn decided to make Oklahoma Territory their permanent home. Since that time, other historic buildings from other locations have been added to the property. The mission of the Harn Homestead Museum is to preserve the historic homestead and educate the public about the territorial years of Oklahoma. The Harn Homestead Museum is proud to be a part of Adventure Road.

“Great place to learn of life in early Oklahoma”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

If you like history, and learning how our ancestors lived, Harn Homestead is a great place to visit. They have so much there to see and experience. It is great for the whole family. Especially the kids. I was a parent sponsor for a school group that attended. The kids loved it. Especially the old school. The kids keep talking about that trip. It is well run and maintained. A fun, yet very educational place to go.

“Enjoyed”

Beautiful grounds surprisingly close to the capital building. The home seemed a bit dusty. Our guide was very knowledgeable.

“Very Educational”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

I have volunteered at Harn Homestead a few times over the last three years during their annual Land Run Reenactment and have enjoyed the experience every time. Everyone on staff is passionate about what they do- and it shows! It is a special, hands on way for children (and adults!) to gain a deeper knowledge of our past.

“ONLY OPEN WEEKENDS!”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

The homestead is only open on weekends. I don't know how I missed that on the website, I guess I am used to a tourist sight being open on weekends or at least a Saturday. We saw the barn and house from the outside. It does look well tended, however it does back up to a housing track on the wrong side of the tracks.

I think what our visitor here meant is that we are only open as a museum on weekdays as opposed to weekends, as it says in the title, and that is true. During the weekends, we are used as a private rental venue. Most of these rentals are weddings and because they are primarily outdoor ceremonies, it is virtually impossible to separate the general admission visitors from the wedding guests and keeping visitors out of the set-up areas, not to mention the ceremonies and receptions, proved to be a problem. Because parties who rent the venue expect exclusive use of the property, the museum is now closed to the public during those ceremonies to respect the privacy and safety of both the rental party and their guests. We apologize for any inconvenience.

“Original Settlers”
Reviewed 10 February 2013

One of the founders of OKC who gave land for the State Capitol. See how early OKC settlers lived and made OKC what it is today.
