“Great location for a weekend in Bricktown”
Reviewed 18 February 2010

The hotel was in a great location on the outskirts of Bricktown. My husband and I came in for one night to see a concert at the Wormy Dog Saloon. The Wormy Dog was about an easy 4 block walk. The hotel was a great value. We booked a non-refundable rate of $120 per night on Hilton’s website.

The room itself was very nice. The hotel did a great job of keeping the character of the hotel while adding modern convinces. We also visited the piano bar in the hotel. They had a good food selection, and a great selection of liquors and beers.

We stayed at the Hilton for its proximity to the FORD CENTER. The rooms are full of amenities (REAL ceramic coffee cups) to meet your every need. The bathroom is huge and very spacious, while the main room itself is rather small. Let's call it 'cozy'. Perfect for one or two people. But we had 4 in there. We traveled with teenagers; who were bummed with the lack of wi-fi. There is a 9.95 charge for internet service. And, no complimentary breakfast, which is almost a must with teens! They had a memorable time because of the haunted stories of "Effie" who resides on the 10th floor. They kept going up there to catch a 'sighting'. Funny.
Great exercise room!
We had a drink in the bar; very cozy and with a European deco feel. Great service.
We had an excellent rate at this location though AAA. If you are not a member, it is worth it to join. The discount probably pays for the membership itself.
Also at the Skirvin, FREE LIMO SERVICE!! Such a treat to travel the long distance of 3 blocks to the Ford Center for the NBA game in a limo! (I think this is available on weekends only)
Parking was very inconvenient unless you pay the $20 valet fee.
Definitely an awesome place to stay.

Growing up in Europe I was used to hotels having excellent bars and restaurants that were located within the hotel. Imagine my disappointment on moving to the USA!

Outside of a few landmark hotels in major cities even so called full service hotels can have very mediocre catering facilities with uninspiring service. I am glad to say that the Hilton Skirvin has great facilities and staff that were inspiring in their choice, quality, and pricing.

The trip did not get off to the best of starts. I pre-booked my room requesting a high floor away from elevators. Upon arrival the front desk commented on this but obvioulsy had not thought about a room in advance (if a Hampton Inn can pre-assign for diamond members why can't a Hilton?) and I was given room 1217. The top floor available as the 14th floor is under renovation - great! Except 1217 is right by the service elevator so there is banging and thumping until 11pm at night that re-started at 6.30am. Sometimes I wonder if front desk personnel actually know the hotel they work in. As it was only for one night I did not bother moving.

The rooms themselves are well appointed and with good lighting. Bathroom was spacious but no seperate shower and the tub is as you would find in any chain hotel. Either give me a spacious walk in shower with a door or a soaker tub with a shower. These pokey little showers over miniscule tubs with a curtain are so passe. The room was spacious enough for 1 but for 2 it would be a push. The windows blocked out most noise and the curtains were well fitted and blackout with not a crack of light to be seen - excellent. Too bad the door did not fit as well - tile entry emans door sits proud - bath towel fixed that. Doors are very heavy and would have good soundinsulation if not for the gap at the bottom. Due to their weight they close with a loud bang as the closing mechnism did not dampen properly and the frame has no rubber seal or other noise dampening- seemed the same on all doors as I heard banging all night. If you are a light sleeper look elsewhere.

The highlight was definitely my choice to eat in for dinner. I actually ate in the bar as eating alone in a sit down restaurant is always a bit lonely. The bar is very well staffed and run - just had to glance up to be asked if I needed anything. Restaurant menu is available and food quality was great, fairly priced as well. The choice of beverages is well above their 4 star rating - as good a choice as a 5 star establishment including rare Congacs, Scotch Whisky, cordials, liquers, and Champagnes (and no I don't mean Korbel!). The head barman Chris is also quite knowledeable and enthusiastic in sharing his knowledge - but not a preacher, he also is a listener and is eager to learn any pearls of wisdom his customers have to share (how many listeners do you run across behind a bar?). It was obvious that he has regulars and knows how to keep them happy - overheard one regular working a deal to bring his wife in and have a very expensive bottle of Champagne - all will be arranged as he wants by the team. Also have premium beers and have free snacks available (cashews). Combined with a great ambience and classic traditional surroundings this has to be the best bar in OK City.

Had the full breakfast buffet in the morning. Prompt friendly service. Made to order omlette with self service pancakes, waffles, saudsages (2 kinds) bacon, etc etc. Smoked salmon with all the trimmings (capers, chopped egg, onion etc) and all well presented. catering manager knows his stuff and he appears to have a good team.

All in all a very good experience and I will be back.

The hotel was located in the heart of the city. It was absolutely awesome! If you are ever there, you have to visit! The decor was amazing, service was great, rooms were very comfortable, unique and clean. The price was very affordable for such a great hotel!

I remember the original Skirvin from the 80's, and I was excited to see how the renovation compared to my memory. They did a fantastic job! The lobby is gorgeous with tall luxurious draperies and beautiful dark wooded furniture. They did keep pieces of the previous hotel in the emerald green and brass elevator doors and glimpses of the old flooring.

I traveled with my husband and 4 year old son, and the staff upgraded us to the suite (I am assuming there isn't much hotel traffic on the night of January 1). It was amazing. It included a nice sized bedroom and large living area with a couch (not pull-out). My son and I loved the large windowsills that allowed us to sit in them and look out over the city.

We also used the pool, which is in the basement and is somewhat small, but it fit our needs perfectly.

If I were to make a negative comment, I would say the hotel needs to fix the lack of amount of lighting in the bathroom. In our suite there was a light over the shower, but there was only a small built-in light fixture (the size of a small track lighting fixture or smaller) over the vanity and sink. Just one. It was absolutely impossible to see anything much less put on make-up or fix your hair. I've never seen a sink area so dimly lit. I would recommend a sconce over the mirror (and there's room to add this).

The parking is either by valet for $20/night or save money and use the self-parking garage next to the hotel for $7/night. It was very easy to use.

All in all, I highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure. They really did a terrific job in preserving a historic landmark in the heart of Oklahoma City.

Friends and I took the Amtrak train from Fort Worth to Oklahoma City for a short, weekend trip back in October. We really enjoyed the train ride--lots of room onboard. We stayed at the Hilton Skirvin for two nights and enjoyed our experience immensely. The hotel has a lot of old-world charm, but the rooms have been updated nicely. It is truly a top-notch hotel. Don't miss the OKC Bombing Memorial (unforgettable) as well as the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (the Dale Chilhuly permanent exhibit is amazing!). And the people of Oklahoma City are the nicest you'll find anywhere!

second visit to the Skirvin the other being in 2007. fabulously restored and I rate their restaurant better than other establishments charging more. With rooms you get what you pay forbut hey I don't go on holiday to spend my time in a hotel room. Staff were friendly [ perhaps the English accent helps ] and helpful. I shall possibly go back a third time
