“A Fascinating Museum Dedicated to Western Art and Artifacts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

The Gilcrease Museum is a somewhat hidden treasure of Tulsa. It is an amazing collection of art and artifacts depicting the American west. The museum is well organized and includes paintings and sculptures which can be viewed up close and personal. Staff members can be found throughout the museum to answer questions and enhance the visitor's experience. The various rooms are organized by theme and can be enjoyed at an individual's own pace. In addition, the museum has an extensive section devoted to art for children, including many items which advertise "please touch". A half-day is probably too short to begin to digest all this museum has to offer. If you are a first time visitor, and from out of town, the use of a GPS is advised as the Gilcrease is somewhat off the beaten path.

“I Was Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

They do have an impressive collection in the Gilcrease Museum but most of the artifacts I was interested in seeing were kept downstairs in drawers I had to search through to view. Also, my wife and I ate lunch at the Museum; the buffet was mediocre at best and highly overpriced at nearly $50.00 for two. This was my one and only visit.

“Amazing Collections”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

This museum isn't far from downtown Tulsa, and is a must see, if you are in the area. The entrance fee is reasonable, and the day we were there, the museum wasn't crowded. I was amazed by the variety of work and the amount that was on display. Gilcrease Museum staff are helpful and very friendly. The grounds around the museum are well cared for and provide for some beauiful pictures.

Well set up representation of art of the southwest and Latin America. Cool and peaceful. Beautiful views from the grounds as well as from a glass enclosed area in the museum

“Impressive.”

Best collection of Western art (as in Remington, Cole, those guys) I've seen -- not a huge museum, can be done in a few hours. Gorgeous gardens, too, like the Phillbrook's. A little light on the Indian side, considering the huge windows look out onto the Osage reservation. The really good Indian stuff is in drawers in the basement. They were building a whole new bldg when I was there, so I expect that to change.

Yet another reason to visit Tulsa, one of the prettiest cities on earth, not just the U.S. Really.
