After reading the online reviews and reading about how comfy the beds were and that the complimentary breakfast was good, I booked two nights at this hotel for my elderly parents and me. When booking through Trip Advisor online, I'd requested a quiet room on the first floor and near an exit as my parents have difficulty walking. The front desk clerk said that the request never came through, but she did make a last minute change to accommodate the request. She also warned us that using the two side exits could be tricky as sometimes the key-card entry devices are unreliable; however, we got in and out of the building just fine.
When we arrived we found the room very clean and cold. (The A/C had been set at 65 degrees.) The beds were firm and acceptable to me but would have been far better with the addition of a foam pad. My mother said the bed was the worst bed on which she has ever slept. None of us slept well at all, and I kept smelling a hint of mildew--perhaps from the A/C or maybe one of the pillows. At least the air conditioner ran fairly quietly.
There was a mini-fridge in the room but no microwave. The one-cup coffee maker worked once each day but for back-to-back brewing, so we retrieved our coffee from the lobby. The room's vanity area was tiny and cramped with hardly any counter space, yet that's where the coffee maker was placed. There was no folding luggage stand and with three people in the room it was sorely missed. The bedside lamp used two bulbs with no way lessen the extreme brightness except to remove one of the bulbs, which we were compelled to do as the light shown in our eyes while watching TV from bed.
On the plus side, the desk area had plenty of outlets for my electronic devices, and there were a lot of choices at breakfast. I especially liked the option of cranberry juice and milk instead of just apple or orange juices, but powdered scrambled eggs just don't do it for me. Yogurts, waffles, sausage, cereals, oatmeal, breads, seasonal fruits--all good.
The most genuinely personable staff member I met was the dark-haired man who emptied the exterior trash bins.
I'm usually a fan of Marriott's but last week I stayed at the Best Western next door to this hotel and it was a better stay and $10 per night less.
