“What...no food???”
Reviewed 21 January 2012

We called to reserve a room from Twin Falls, ID the night before our arrival on Tues. Jan 24th. I spoke with a nice woman who told me of the wonderful rooms, delightful food and snow shoe rentals available. We had stayed at the hotel on Labor Day, 2009. We knew that snow was arriving and thought the Geiser Grand would be a nice place to hole up for 2 days before driving back to Portland.
We got there as the snow started to fall. We checked in at 2pm and the clerk told us that the kitchen was shut down for twice yearly maintenance...HUH??? Why didn't the lady tell us that on the phone the evening prior? We had been looking forward to a warm drink at the bar and a nice cozy dinner...instead we had to go across the street to the Main Event (nice, friendly tavern) for drinks and dinner. We also drove to Haines that evening to eat at the Haines Steakhouse but that was closed, also...10 miles out of our way in the snow...GRRR!!
The kitchen at Geiser didn't open until 4pm Wed so we had to go elsewhere for breakfast. Very frustrating!

Enjoyed a great dinner and really love the place! The hotel is just beautiful!
The staff is exceptional - we've stayed here before and will definitely do it again!!
The room we had was very roomy, huge windows and excellent room service!
Really loved the big fluffy robes too!

The hotel is beautiful, of course. There is no doubt about it's high quality and class. It's the perfect combination of classic 1800's furniture but with the high quality beds, amenities and electronics. The staff, however is exceptional and they have gone above and beyond my expectations of what customer service should be. Not only were they extremely attentive but when we had a few questions about some prices, the manager (Justin) called us on his day off and the owner emailed me back promptly also on her day away from the hotel. We were taken care of without question and never felt like we were not treated with the highest respect. Unfortunately we just graduated college and could only afford staying three nights but for our next year's anniversary, we're going to stay for a week no doubt. There is so much to explore in this town and the people are so wonderful and willing to talk to you about the history and what went into creating this beautiful space. It's the perfect getaway, really.

Nice rooms and good food. We stayed in the Corner Room this time and loved it. Lots of light and very roomy. The menu and specials were excellent, but desserts did not seem up to the quality they normally are. Good but not the normal great. My only suggestion is the restaurant should use ceramic tea pots instead of the plastic pots. Also enjoyed touring the town and love the museum. Took us two hours to go through it. We will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent, but I really enjoyed the Corner Suite since we stayed there in the wint...

Things we loved: complimentary fluffy robes, down comforters and pillows, tons of free DVD's to borrow, and great restaurant. The giant windows and drapes in the room, and the tall staircase leading to the restaurant lended to the historical ambience. My favorite part was the 8' showers. I felt like I was 7 years old again! When my kids saw the chandelier in the room they said, "Wow! This is fancy!"

Front desk seemed a bit short staffed during our stay, , but luckily we didn't need much - the room and restaurant were great!

When travelling through eastern Oregon, my husband and I always like to make a point of stopping in Baker City to stay at the Geiser Grand. It's a lovely hotel and part of Oregon history. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Geiser Grand just before Thanksgiving (2011). While Baker City may be a little frayed around the edges, this hotel definitely is not.
The hotel is lovely- it is rare to see an historic property restored with such care to detail. Our room (a king room, on the third floor) was cozy and quiet, and the all-white bathroom spotless.
Friendly staff, free coffee in the morning, and a pretty good DVD library in the lobby made our stay more than pleasant.

We at breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the hotel restaurant and the food was consistently good. The beautiful atrium dining room was being decorated for Christmas during our stay, and I am sorry that we won't be able to make it back for the afternoon teas offered on Saturdays during the holiday season.
