“Awesome vintage hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2011

I have been staying here with my family at least once a year for 20 years, and we have always had a wonderful experience. I see a lot of comments on here about it needing to be refurbished--if these travelers are looking for Egyptian cotton sheets and marble countertops they should go elsewhere. Windermere doesn't advertise as refurbished. They cater to people who want a relaxing, genuine Oregon coast experience. We've always enjoyed that they're simple, homey, and immaculately clean. The view and beach access absolutely can't be beat! Take it from someone who has stayed here almost two dozen times--Windermere is great.

My husband and I have stayed here twice - we lodged in a luxury unit on our honeymoon, and another time we stayed in one of the A-frames during a road-trip. We love this place!!! It certainly has a rustic "cabin-like" feel...probably not for everyone, judging from other reviews. For us, its character adds to the romantic ambiance. Our rooms were cozy both times, and the view is simply amazing! The beachfront is essentially the backyard - our units walked directly out to the beach path. The nearby town of Bandon is quite appealing too...friendly town-folk and plenty of yummy eats! I can see this being a place we return to again and again!

We had a wonderful stay at Windermere. We only had one night there, but the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were cozy and clean. We had amazing views of the ocean from our room and our back porch. Great beach access, we took a couple of walks in the morning and at sunset. Gorgeous! It's a few miles from the town of Bandon, but a quick and easy drive for sure.

We love these authentic 60's seaside cabins. A little noisy if the neighbors aren't quiet. A little creaky, but well maintained with a vintage flavor that the Best Western across the street (without the view) doesn't have. Weekdays are quiet and the management spaces the guests between units to keep things on the quieter side. Our unit was roomy - two double beds upstairs, and a queen downstairs, but we didn't use the upstairs. Kitchen / dining / living area well stocked with glasses, plates, silverware, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, four electric burners, an oven and a sink with good hot water. The Bathroom was small for two, four would be pushing it. But it does suffice. The view is fantastic from the decks. Privacy is of no concern to passersby who smile and say hello. But, curtains close off the world when privacy is needed. We had a very soft bed, but with plenty of blankets. Wall heater with thermostat. Ventilation by opening the upstairs windows for cross draft and the sounds of the sea. Good sharp reception on the satellite TV. A list of available channels was needed. The Wifi worked pretty well most of the time, with a few times where we needed to log into one of the other two networks available. This place is a real gem. We'll return as often as possible. Highly recommended.

The host seemed friendly enough upon registering, but did mention that the wifi connection could be spotty. With no phones in the place we needed our computer connection to stay in touch with family. Once in our very dated room (none of the electrical outlets even had a ground), we found that we could not connect to the Windermere's Wifi, but could get onto the Hotel across the streets connection, so that was okay. The walls are so thin, we were annoyed late into the night by the very noisy group in the room next to ours. By the next morning, we decided to talk to the manager about upgrading to one of the luxury suites ( a term used VERY loosely), what they really mean is a unit that is what the normal standard is for most hotels. We made the arrangements to make the move, and moved all of our stuff back into our vehicle so that the housekeepers could clean our new room for our arrival. One of the housekeepers allowed us to put our food into the fridge in the new unit as we would be out sightseeing for the day and didn't want our food to go bad. We arrived back quite late, moved our stuff in, and then discovered that in this new room we could not get Wifi either from this hotel or the one across the street, great, no way to communicate with family. Off to bed, and had a much quieter nights sleep. Made coffee in the morning and went to put milk into it and discovered that all of the food we had put into the fridge had frozen solid, it seems the door to the freezer inside the fridge was broken off, and so the whole unit was freezing. We went to see the manager, to let him know firstly about our disappointment about not having Wifi, when it is advertised in neon on the sign, and also about the frozen food. He did not remember telling us about the iffy wifi connection and made us feel as though it was our fault that our food had frozen (we should have been checking it, he said) When we suggested he replace the door on the freezer he said it would be a waste because it would just get broken off again. We were supposed to spend another night, but requested a refund and also a refund for the food we lost. We were given a refund for the night we didn't stay and also and extra 25.00 for our food. This place left a real sour taste in our mouths, the only disappointment of our 7 nights on the Oregon coast.

We have stayed here twice we get one of the upstairs room with kitchenette and queen bed.
it's so cool to sit at your kitchen table and watch the ocean/weather/people/horses/ships/birds. all from your cozy and warm mini Home / room. take a walk on the beach.
the folks that run the place are nice. I think this is the best deal on the Oregon coast.
have a nice dinner at bandon bills across the street.

Great view and very relaxed.
Rustic old not neglected old.
Very clean and well kitted out.
Beds were very hard.
DO NOT rely on the wifi. We had 3 devices and none if them could see it let alone get on it.
