We were visiting and found this place mostly by accident. When we pulled into the strip mall, we had to wonder. When we walked up there appeared to be quite a waiting line so we went ahead. We got to sit at the sushi bar which turned out to be excellent. The food was very good. We had the chirashi bowl, bento box, and a sashimi combination plate. Everyone ate until we couldn't eat anymore. Miso soup was flavorful without being overpowering. Would recommend this if you are in the area.

The place was busy but we managed to find a table without a wait. We ordered the Washington roll, TNT roll and another baked roll whose name I cannot remember.
The portions seemed bigger, but it was because they had used more rice for every roll.
Two of the sushi rolls that we ordered had sweet sauces on top, we had expected only one to have the sauce. The sushi rice wan't seasoned well and little mushy.
The quality of fish was good, but the whole combination didn't work as well. Sushi rice is also a very important aspect of the sushi. Though the prices are reasonable considering its a sit down sushi restaurant and the rolls seem value for money, there is a lot of rice and garnishing that make the portions look large.
The service was very courteous though.

Love the Bento box, big meal for $9.99, you get salad, Miso soup, California Roll, a bowl of rice and your choice of two dishes. I had the Teriyaki Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki. More food than I could eat and I have a healthy appetite. It is clean and new and had a good atmosphere.

Always good food and generous portions. Could be busy at times, but food quality is worth the wait, and not terribly expensive. I eat here monthly, if not twice a month! The volcano roll is incredible!

Wife is Japanese and we eat sushi often. We like quality and it's not unusual to spend 150$ or more on an outing. Shoten has some interesting or tasty items on their menu. I recall enjoying their uni shochu shot, ika geso, baby octopus, some grilled organ meats, but after several visits now we come out generally very disappointed with the quality of the fish beyond filler fake crab and Sake (salmon), which is good almost anywhere decent these days. Fish quality and selection is run of the mill (pre-frozen and at times waterlogged) and our view is that Shoten relies too heavily on sauces and semi-fancy presentation to tantalize instead of delighting our taste buds with quality. Sadly, I had to return unfresh fish twice. Also note that if you order a don (bowl) here, do not expect sushimeshi (sushi rice) under your fish, it's plain rice and yuk (sorry!). The service is pretty good, polite and attentive. Ambiance is nice, can get loud but still OK, and place feels authentic, though, out of full disclosure, owners are Korean (but then so is our newest favorite sushi place). "Shoten dollars" brought us back a few times more than we should have. If you're in need of quick sushi fix, Shoten will do. If you want delicate flavors and fresh fresh fresh, look elsewhere.
