I grew up in Tumalo. Love the town. A short distance away is this Tumalo State Park. It's close to Bend, too. Nice place to park your RV. You're in nature, but Costco is still close. You may wade in the river. It is shallow in the park but I know a few places there nearby that are deep enough for swimming. There were solar showers available years ago. I assume they are still there. Very hot.

Tumalo Stat Park has a campground (we do not use it because we live nearby in Bend). We love the Day-Use area because it incorporates a big sections of the river so that everyone is very spread out. It is a section of the river that moves rapidly, but very shallow. Lots of tube action for the kids if you are camping or just around for the day, I believe there is a $5.00 Oregon State Park fee for the day if you drive into park, There are many parking spaces that are scattered along the grassed expanse of riverfront. Lots of places to picnic. You can arrange to reserve the large, covered picnic area for a large group gathering though the State of Oregon Parks, I believe. Lots of fun for kids and adults there.

Not a lot there, but we didn't need a lot. Just stopped in to soak our feet in the river while on a bike ride. It was great for that.

We stayed here for just one night after a bike race in Bend. We were happy to find hot showers, and skies dark enough to see the milky way. The sites by the river are nice and quiet, and in the morning we stood there with our coffee and watched kayakers go by. Might not be a good place with small children though--river is deep and cold and fast. Go for the sites up on the hill.

First off, the picture attached to this site is incorrect! The picture is of Smith Rock State Park - about a half hours drive north from Bend. Tumalo State Park, on OB Riley DOES NOT have a waterfall. Tumalo Falls is about a 30 minute drive to the west. Wow, some serious confusion going on here.

Tumalo State Park is located just outside city limits and occupies a beautiful location along Tumalo Creek. There are swimming holes, lots of grass and plenty of shade. It has a great creek to wade in, float on (it is usually shallow and slow moving in the summer), and do a little fishing. It is close to town for those who like to mix their camping with shopping, movies, dining out. It is a very nice campground with lots of grass around each site, little dust, hedges to provide some privacy, and very well maintained. If you have a family with young kids this may be an excellent place to camp. It is also very popular and I would recommend getting reservations well in advance. If you want unlimited wilderness there are a multitude of options along Century Drive and the High Lakes highway. If you want something very nice and close-in this is the place for you.
