We spent 2 nights in Bend and wanted to kayak or canoe. A waiter at a brew pub recommended Tumalo and we weren't disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location made it so easy to get on the river - walked out the back door and put in!! We were looking for a couple hours to spend and the standard route people take when on the river was perfect for us.

The only difficulty was finding the entrance. It sits down below a bunch of other retail locations and if it was well marked we didn't see it.

The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 was because I would have enjoyed a few more pointers on how to paddle well. I had fun, but gosh I did not get far. My technique sucked hahaha but that isn't there fault. It was a tad bit pricey, but worth it. We had a blast and the staff was super friendly. Loved it!

The staff was energetic and helpful. The kayaking was fun, scenery beautiful. The only problem was finding the actual store entrance. There were no signs at the entrance to direct you to the lower parking lot and store. We actually gave up and started to head home when we saw the store while we were on Colorado Ave bridge. We turned around and ended up having a great time.

This was a great lesson! We started out on the back lawn and had a little discussion of what was going to take place. Then we got in the river.

Hank, (the instructor) is extremely knowledgeable. He went over everything from currents and eddys to actual paddling techniques. He demonstrated how to paddle to reduce fatigue, and where to position your boat, (kayak or canoe) when starting out on the course.

We paddled the actual course, and made multiple turns around the bouys. Practice, Practice and practice some more.

The staff here is wonderful. From helping launch boats to selling boats, they are just fantastic. Everything is done with a smile and "Can Do" attitude.

If you are ever in the market for a kayak or canoe, they have everything! Absolutely everything you could ever want to put on the water. Fishing kayaks, Hobie sailing kayaks, recreational and sea kayaks and stand up paddle boards too. And all the gear and accessories to go with it.

They are a local shop and greet the locals by name. They have lessons on the river, they have day tours and kids camps. They even have extended trips to the San Juan Islands and a Panama trip.
