“Great meal and wonderful service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

After a long day of hiking at Crater Lake National Park, it was wonderful to sit down to simple pleasures made fresh and new. My husband says the pork and beef meatloaf with fried kale was the best he has ever had. I loved the golden beet gazpacho soup as well as the seared Oregon albacore with eggplant, jalapeño and saffron. The beer and wine selection were very good as well.

“Great Food in Bend - and Not a Brew Pub - Yay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Its nice to have a few alternatives in Bend that are not in the brew pub style that most restaurants here seem to have gone too. We don't need 10 of those restaurants within a few blocks folks! So Drake is a welcome alternative that is a very large step up in quality from that style.

The menu is interesting; lots of choices for many different palates. And whatever they offer is designed and executed with care and expertise. We walked in towards the middle of the afternoon - hungry but not knowing whether lunch or dinner was being served. Lunch. We ordered the fried chicken and fish tacos and were not disappointed. The chicken had been braised previously - and then breaded and fried to order. So it was not greasy or oily, was cooked all the way through and delicious with a light cornbread batter. The two pieces of chicken sat on top of a wonderful house made fingerling potato salad that was not your Mom's or grandmothers - unless of course they were gourmet cooks. House made pickles and vegetable garnish accompanied this dish. Attention to spicing, moisture content, salt etc demonstrated the chefs attention to detail.

The fish tacos were equally delicious. Some fish tacos we find boring; little pieces of warm fish in soft tacos with some salsa. These started with generous pieces of coated and fried cod. To that they added pico de gallo, a little mango, a wonderful aoli to provide the moisture, mashed avocado and red onion. A wonderful blend of tastes and quite savory.

We had superb service - but were the only people there in the middle of the afternoon - so not a fair test. Also interesting was their selections of beer - although they are NOT a brew pub. They also offer a full bar and bar seating if you are alone, or if the tables are full.

Highly recommended - and we will definitely be coming back when we are in Bend.

“Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014 via mobile

My wife and I wandered into the Drake and had a great lunch. I had the Baja tacos and she had the spicy chicken sandwich. Both were great choices. The drake margarita might use a little more sweetness but that is a personal choice - very nice lunch.

“Little slow to get service, but well worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

Little slow to get service, but well worth it! We just popped in and decided to take a chance on this restaurant. We sat at the bar, enjoyed all the sights of the kitchen and watching the awesome food that came out.
