“Breathtaking”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Park on the east side of the road and if you are older like me (61), be prepared for a slightly challenging walk down to the beach but it is well worth it and is a popular spot for surfers. The trek throughout the old growth Forrest and then coming to the picnic area overlooking the beach is breath taking! Enjoy a lie sourly stroll on the beach but be prepared for the uphill walk back but there are areas you can stop, enjoy the view and catch your breath.

“Falcon Cape”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

One of the most beautiful and enjoyable hikes ever and we have hiked many places in the US. Enjoyed the gradual uphill gain over the 2.5 miles with the in and out peek-a-boos of the coast. The cape itself was impressive. Total hike 5 miles on the out and back trail and this asthmatic was not winded at all.

“Nice hikes for kids”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

This park is known for Neahkahnie Mountain, and in our pre-child days, my husband and I would have headed straight for that trail. However, with our 4-year-old in tow, we did a very modest half mile hike along the Short Sand Beach Trail, and it was lots of fun, a typical rainforest hike with a beach at the end. Worth a stop on the drive down the coast.

“Remember the beach-side party in Kindergarten Cop?”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

This is one of the most beautiful state parks along the Oregon Coast. It was shown in Kindergarten Cop as the sight for the school field trip.

“Unique beach”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We were driving southbound on 101 and pulled into a parking area that had a sign for Oswald West State Park. We followed a trail through a lovely wooded area and eventually came to the beach. This beach has a large sandy area and seemed to be very popular with surfers. There were also several families with children. The children were not swimming but seemed to be enjoying themselves playing in the sand and around the tidal pools. Some groups were sitting on logs and enjoying fires made from driftwood. We turned to the right and walked toward a small waterfall I had read about. There wasn't much to it being that this is the dry season for Oregon. As we approached it we noticed two caves. One was about 15 feet deep and was easy to walk in. They may get water in them at high tide. On the way back to our car we decided to take the trail that the surfers were using to get to the beach. This one was next to a stream and was shorter than the first one we took to get down to the beach. When we reached 101 our car was just a short walk to the north. If you are looking for a nice hike and an uncrowded beach, this place is for you.
