Thanks to the Trip Advisor reviews, I made it to the history center which was well worth a few bucks donation. Though it's small, if you dig history, you can easily spend about 45 minutes to an hour here, especially if you chat up the staff. Nice information about the town's history and regional history. A few interactive items for kids too.

I've been visiting CB for decades and this was my first time visiting the museum. I spent about an hour reading about the former and current residents. The old timers sure showed tenacity by taking the unpaved roads. There is a lot to see in a small space.

Your visit to this tiny but jam-packed-with-info building can take 10 minutes or 2 hours. History of Cannon Beach, its cannon, its native American history, and its political history. But what captured my interest most was the display on its geological history explaining the formation of Haystack rock and the Needles! I also loved the historical photos of the area of 1930s beach houses, visits by presidents, flood damage, and highway construction! This gem can be hard to find so use your GPS if necessary. When done here, drive through the little neighborhood adjoining the parking lot to absorb some off-the-beaten-track charm of the houses where full time residents live.

Exhibits track the history of Cannon Beach from Native American beginnings (a replica longhouse is inside) through Lewis & Clark and shipwrecks to today. Although small (and admission is, too), it is a fascinating look at one of the coast's most attractive tourist towns. It all started with one cannon from the "Shark" which they have on view. Two more washed ashore a few years ago. Ask the staff where they are today. Some of the exhibits are Q&A about wildlife and features in the Cannon Beach area...well worth a look.
