THIS is the place for healthy and/or vegetarian meals in Cannon Beach. Loved my Vegetarian Reuben (smokey tomato field roast vegan slices, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and swiss cheese served on whole wheat) but there are many other good choices too. Sit down and relax because you're not going to get your food fast (and it isn't fast food either!) especially if they're busy. But you're warned about this right on the menu so don't expect differently. The "older" server is polite but you're not getting much warmth or "bubbliness" ... just expect this.
This place has a unique personality so I completely understand that it's not to everyone's liking. I guess you just have to take it or leave it.

We were super impressed with Sweet Basil's. Our server set us up with beautiful wine pairings - husband had a "zesty" jambalaya (his word) and I had an interesting curry & salmon dish -- mine was a little bizarre, in a good way -- could have benefited from some rice.

We will return the next time we find ourselves on the west coast (best coast!).

Good food! The lunch menu offers great vegetarian and vegan options - wraps, paninis, melts, salads and sandwiches -- alll looked good as did the pies. Lunch is served at a very leisurely pace; it wasn't a busy time of day yet it took quite awhile for our wait person to acknowledge us both as we waited to be seated, order and get our check. That said, the food was delicious when it arrived.

Went to Sweet Basil Cafe today. There were 5 of us and we were cold, wet, and hungry! The older lady who waited on people was very unfriendly and made us feel like we were a burden. I don't care how good the food is, it would not have been worth it!

Sweet Basil's Cafe is sweet and homey and cozy and, most important, the food is sooooo good! John Sowa must be one of the best chefs in the world. Every meal I've had there has been wonderful, fresh, unique, and very tasty.
