I would echo what has been said on this site about quality breakfasts and affable hosts. We found Ed and Heidi to be very relaxed about having people in their home and this made for an enjoyable stay. They helped us decide which wineries to visit and which ones to avoid. With so many in the area, this was very helpful in planning our time. We stayed 2 nights in the Garden Room. Everything was clean and adequately maintained. Carlton is near McMinnville which is the closest city of any size. (about 30,000). Ask Ed or Heidi for dinner recommendations.

I met the owner of the Carlton Inn while I was actually staying at another B & B in the Willamette Valley and he told me about his new venture with great enthusiasm. Because I am in the travel planning business, I made a point of stopping by to see it the next day.

When I arrived, Edward was literally scrubbing the front steps of the Inn. He and his wife appear tremendously dedicated to the upkeep and appearance of their place, as well as to providing a high level of comfort and service to their guests. He is particularly proud of his gourmet breakfasts which he prepares with fresh produce and herbs, some of which he grows right there in the back yard (you should have seen the tomatoes he had at the time I was there!).

I had a good look around the entire place and every bedroom was clean, neat and nicely decorated, and the common areas were inviting and pleasant. The house is bright and airy.

As I said, I did not stay there overnight myself, but would not hesitate to recommend it to my clients or stay there myself in the future.

Living in Portland, we typically visit the great wineries and restaurants in the Carlton area as a day trip before driving back home. This time, we decided to make our trip into a "weekend getaway" that also included a wedding in Carlton. We found the Carlton Inn B&B online and really had no idea what to expect. We've stayed in B&Bs in the US and England so we had high expectations. Heidi and Edward at the Carlton Inn B&B exceeded our expectations.

We stayed in the Garden Room, which is on the main level of the house. The room was very comfortable and quiet, which is a big plus for us. The private bathroom had updated fixtures and there was ample hot water in the morning, something we've had problems with at other B&Bs. Another benefit of this room was that any wine we bought locally didn't have to be carried up stairs for safe storage in our room.

Breakfasts were exceptional and well beyond the expected scones or waffles and coffee found at other B&Bs. Edward uses local organic produce and makes his own granola as well as yogurt. On the first day, he made me an omelette with blue cheese, fresh salmon, spinach, tomatoes and Hawaiian sea salt. Delicious! And, this was created on the spot given the day's market produce. Edward is sensitive to dietary needs and is able to cook breakfast dishes for guests as requested.

The B&B itself is an older house but is comfortable, quaint and full of great antiques and things to read. Downtown Carlton's restaurants and tasting rooms are a short 10 min walk away. The location of this B&B is off the main highway just enough to avoid the noisy truck traffic flowing through the valley. On top of all this, Edward and Heidi are some of the nicest, most interesting people we've met in B&Bs. Their tag line of "The Carlton Inn... Where you arrive as a guest and depart as a friend" seems like slick marketing, but it's actually true! We look forward to our next stay at this B&B.

We were tooling around Oregon wine country on vacation with no plan. We drove into Carlton and asked where to stay. The guy at the gas station said there was only one place in town, so we headed over to check them out. The place is a cool old house, with younger owners. They said they bought the place in November, and it had only been a B&B for a year before that.

We liked what we saw, and the price was reasonable, so we decided to stay the night. Long story short, we ended up staying three days. The breakfasts blew our expectations away, very gourmet, and very well prepared. The owners plied us with a glass of wine the second afternoon, and we hung out on the back porch and chatted. Neat people.

We highly recommend these guys! They are relatively new owners, but they know what they are doing, and they really seem to love it too.

We found this place because everywhere else was booked. The owners said they weren't full yet because they are relatively new, it is still taking time for people to find them. (side note: They were fully booked when we arrived.)

Let me tell you that you really want to find these guys. The owners are a younger couple (probably around 40, which is young for B&B owners), and are very friendly. The place is an older house (early 1900's), but is nicely taken care of.

The rooms aren't huge, but the room we stayed in (Garden room) was larger than we expected, and had a jacuzzi tub that we really enjoyed. There was plenty of room for us to spread out, and Edward and Heidi were around and happy to chat, and have alot of information about the area to share.

We slept well, and breakfast was amazing. now we had eaten dinner the night before at little french restaurant in Carlton, which is about 3 blocks from the B&B, and it was excellent, (review to come after this one.) so we weren't exactly super hungry. Edward (he does all the cooking.) served us a meal that was easily as good as dinner had been. We felt bad because we couldn't finish it, but he wrapped the scones for us to have as a snack later. They make their own yogurt and granola too.

Beautiful place, Terrific food, super nice owners. We also felt that the value of our stay was far more than we paid. ($135, although they said they go to summer rates Memorial Day weekend. We would have paid $165, which we still think is an excellent value.)
