We recently spent 6 nights at this hotel. It is a bit older of a place but they seem to have kept it up quite well. The service in the bar was great as well as the restaurant. The food was good. We ate in the restaurant and later in the evening in the bar. Our only complaint was at check in - the clerk was very, very slow and didn't seem to know what to do. There was one guest in front of us trying to check into 2 rooms and it took about 20 minutes and by then there was a very long line behind us waiting to check in. Was not a good first impression. Also the housekeeping service in our room was not great. The first day we left $5.00 with a note asking for a few more coffee which we got, however she left us no glasses. The second day we got no coffee and one glass. The ice bucket was never emptied all week nor a clean bag for it for ice. The corners of the bathroom floor had a build up of dirt. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning system worked great. We were attending a reunion held in the banquet rooms and the service and meals were wonderful. I would certainly recommend this hotel however it is quite a distance to downtown. They have a shuttle service that was wonderful when it was available. It would drive you to the train station down the road to catch the train or take you over to the mall. They also pick up and return you to the airport - a great service. It certainly was a wonderful place for our reunion. We didn't use the pool so can't comment but it sure looked pretty. It is an outside pool. There is a walkway from the lobby area to where the rooms are located that is all glass and during the day it is impossible to cool it and the temp was more than horrible - a flaw in their design for sure. They have computers and a printer in the lobby for guest use and that was very handy to print our airplane boarding passes and directions to things we went to see.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor and didn't have a nice view (room 161) so if a nice view is important then ask for one and maybe on an upper floor.

We stayed overnight and I do have to say, their beds were the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. We also needed to be somewhere early, called for a wake up call, and they forgot to call us! They make it up though by giving us a small break on the price. That really means a lot when a hotel truly wants to make their customers happy. I would recommend this place to friends...the only bad thing is that they do not HV a fitness center, spa or a free continental breakfast. The price is a little steep for what you get.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent stay. Our beds are a style of the Serta pillow top, perfect sleeper (not an advertisement). We apologize for the wake-up call being missed and, while we don't have a fitness center or spa on site, hope you had a chance to exercise in or recreate by the pool. We hope to see you again soon!

Enjoyed they stay, was very happy with the in hotel dining, Sams Restaurant. Wonderful food... a real plus and so convenient, not having to go search for a place to dine. The staff was great. In both areas. We were served quickly and enjoyed every bite!

Thank you for your comments about your November visit. We are glad to hear that you had the opportunity to enjoy Sam's Restaurant and Lounge during your stay! Quick tip should you be passing through the area again, check our website - monarchhotel.cc - to see if we have any online specials or coupons for the restaurant available (we usually do!). If not there is always happy hour from 3pm-6pm. Cheers!

Stayed at this hotel for a recent conference. Was a bit disappointed with the smell of the room as I reserved a non-smoking. As I was opening the door, one of the staff members let me know that she had just been in the room and opened the windows, which I thought was kind of strange. I hadn't really thought much about it until I visited a freind in another and noticed that her room didn't smell the same. It was then that I realized that mine was probably a former smoking room. Even with that it wasn't a horrible odor. I had a great view of the "green area" that included a stream and faint view of the pool. Overall, I was very impressed with staff, room and hotel cleanliness overall and a great location!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the green space area. It's beautiful and far enough away that you can enjoy the sounds of the kids in the pool, not get a headache from them!

Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent stay at the Monarch. We apologize for the room odor, we do have 10 rooms that are designated for the few smokers that we get. Since the Hotel was full over your conference we did have to use some of these rooms for non-smokers. We do try to air them out and use an ionizer to reduce any lingering odor. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us!

I really like this hotel! Nice location, great beds, and awesome staff. But I must say my Criticisms:
The pool is closed during the spring
The sky bridge makes things confusing and one can easily get lost
The TVs are old style CRTs
A gap in the bottom of the door allows noise to enter

Overall a great stay

P.S. I made a video on this hotel, here is the link:
