“Great Spa room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2007

My husband and I stayed in The spa room with a King bed. This room is actually very large two rooms. There is a kitchenette which has a stove, sink, and refrigerator. There are cooking utensils and dinning dishes. There is no counter to work on. We found champagne is the regrigerator. On top of the refrigerator was the ice bucket with two glass goblets and inside each one were wonderful chocolates. There is no counter to work on. Next to the kitchen is a dining table and two chairs. The furniture in the living room is very comfortable, a wonderful couch and recliner chair. There is a coffee table that sits in front of the couch. The decor is very nice thoughout. The livng room has a fireplace heater and tv. The King size bed in the bedroom is very comfortable. There is also a Tv in this room. The Two person tub sits in this room. There is a bathroom with a sink and also a dressing area outside the bathroom with a sink. This room sits at the end of the hotel on the bottom floor. There are two slding doors that overlook the slough-- The living room and the bedroom. We had two chairs on the outside patio. I swam laps in the heated indoor pool, which also has a hot tub in the same room. There is a small exercise room that looks out into the pool. The Breakfast was not good at all. There was juice, coffee, donuts and granola bars. Since we had the kitchenette, I chose to cook a healthy breakfast. I also cooked us dinner the night we arrived. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again if I got the king spa room. We really enjoyed and stay and being able to cook was a bonus. I can not comment on the other rooms.

Stayed here for one night in August on a pleasure trip. Older hotel, but very clean with a nice room layout. We had 2 queen beds with benches at the bottom (very handy), a 2nd sink outside of the bathroom and a nice desk and recliner. Nice patio with a water view. Good fitting sheets and comfy bed. Minimal continental breakfast and not many restuarants withing walking distance, but overall a nice stay for the $$$. We would stay here again if traveling this way.

The biggest problem is that the place was overpriced. If it was $50 cheaper I probably would have few complaints. If I had it to do over again I'd roll the dice and try the Red Lion for about $20 less. Actually, I might have just skipped Coos Bay altogether since it was just a stopover on the way back to CA. Every room in town was seriously overpriced compared to other places in Oregon, even compared to the Portland area.

The "view" I paid extra for was of a slough, not the actual bay as I foolishly assumed. There is cable, but no HBO. There is sloooooooow wifi internet access, but it isn't open so you have to call the front desk and beg for the code. The shower was kind of claustrophobic for me (I'm tall, it's not). Niceties like a pen and paper were absent, but the annoying beggar's envelope for the maid was present.

Note to Edgewater: You need to hire an actual professional interior decorator. *Everything, everywhere* is some shade of blue, inside and out. Tacky tacky tacky! Even the towels are dark blue, and at a hotel I'd like my towels visibly bleached clean, thank you.

Like many coastal towns in summer there were a few hippies asking for change. I can't really blame the hotel for that. (I can blame Coos Bay for that though. They need some K-9 patrols and baton-swinging cops. "Scram, hippie!" Ok, I kid, but the hippies are pretty annoying.)

Otherwise the room was clean, there was a fridge and microwave. There's a Safeway (grocery) across the parking lot with a Starbucks inside. The hotel staff was courteous and the few locals we talked to were very friendly.

Well, not a lot of choices in Coos Bay. The Edgewater advertising claims that it is on the water. The water is not the ocean or a bay but a river. Some river fronts are nice but this is mediocre. The much bragged about wood chip companies are in full view with a train next door to the hotel. It wasn't awful but not what we expected for a room with a water view. The hotel is older and we had a large room that had newer rennovations. We had a private hot tub which was very nice and a cute little bar area with bar stools. Coos Bay has a certain charm but certainly does not compare to the other Oregon coastal towns that we spent time in.

My son and I were touring the Pacific Northwest. We pulled into the Coos Bay Edgewater Inn around 11 PM. We had just decided against a couple of other lodging facilities we had inquired upon previously in the area, when we walked up to the desk and asked for availability. They negotiated a great rate for a room with two queen sized beds and we were quite surprised by how big and clean it was. We enjoyed our stay there, the breakfast, and the use of the exercise room and business center to catch up on emails and correspondence till check out time. We had been traveling hard for three days and the Edgewater Inn was a good place for us to unwind and recharge. We would recommend it to others and we would stay there again if ever in the area.

The website does the hotel no justice. It's clean, well-appointed and the staff was very helpful (they reccomended Benetti's for dinner -- it's not on the list of choices for dining here, but we highly recommend it!). We got a room with a king size bed + kitchenette & water view for $115 during peak season less than 1 week's notice (everything was sold out by the time we got there). I think this would be a great place for families -- large rooms + pool + continental breakfast.

Water view rooms are just great! Second floor with large balcony at $82.80 including tax and breakfast suited us fine for a stopover while enroute up Oregon coast. Huge room, very neat overlooking estuary (more than half the rooms are) - skip those which face the parking lot unless you are desperate. There aren't any better options in Coos Bay. Go to fish house in Charleston (5 miles) for dinner.
