“Nice hotel but a tad expensive”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

Nice Hotel but I could not get the cheaper AAA rate, had to settle for a "newly renovated" room. It was supposed to have a wired network but not on our room.
The room was very spacious and clean, the linens were very good and the hot breakfast a nice break from the dreary "continental" breakfasts at other places.

I was a little taken aback by some of the reviews. We found this property to be very comfortable. The room was great except for some carpet stains, it did appear to need a cleaning. Otherwise it was good, the bed comfortable, lots of pillows, nice size thick towels/washcloths, double mirror/sink areas for getting ready which I consider a real plus. We found the breakfast to be tasty though we did only eat there one morning. We thereafter found a Chinese Restaurant (Tai's Dynasty) that serves breakfast all day with a huge selection to choose from so we ate there the remainder of our stay at breakfast time. The eggs, did taste like real eggs to me - I noted someone said they "weren't real". The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room wasn't super bright but we didn't find it to be too dark for our needs. The bathroom lights start out dim but brighten the longer they are on. As far as no elevator and having to use stairs I think that is something a person should consider initially when registering for a hotel, if they don't want to haul luggage upstairs they should request to be placed downstairs. We will definitely stay here again in the future as we have in the past. We have always found Red Lion properties to be one of the better hotels for our price range. We didn't find the air conditioning noise to be a problem, it actually helps drown out other noises that might come in from the outside.

Room Tip: If you don't want to be upstairs make that request when booking. If you don't want someone...

We were taking our 16 year old grandson, visiting from Texas, on a southern Oregon trip for his birthday. Chose the Red Lion, not a chain we usually use for stays and picked the family suite which said there were 3 queen beds, so figured we would be very comfortable. What a lovely surprise to find the third bed in a separate room! There was a t.v., chair and closet in that room, the main room was super roomy and the cost only $10.00 more than a 2 bed suite. We would have paid $15.00 for a rollaway elsewhere! We enjoyed the room so much, we cancelled our next day stay in Roseburg and stayed an extra night. The room was very clean, beds were very comfy, good pillows, hotel was very quiet. Sadly, breakfast was only served till 9:00 a.m. so we were unable to partake of it, hard to get a 16 year old up in the morning and everyone dressed and out that early. Did have dinner one night in their restaurant, just basic sandwich fare but tasty enough. Dining options are slim in Coos Bay. Can't recall the last time we stayed in a Red Lion, but this was quite enjoyable. Hotel is a little out of the downtown area, so had to drive in (it's close, but not close enough to really walk) but not an inconvenience. Would definitely stay here again if we ever find our way to Coos Bay in the future.

Room very dark, but was clean. Outside stairs are very difficult to climb with luggage. They really think a lot of their breakfast and they go through precautions to keep non-guests from getting food, but I wasn't impressed with the breakfast. It wasn't any different than any other basic motel breakfast; eggs, sausage, bacon, bagels, toast, cereal. The eggs weren't real and they tasted gross- my stomach hurt later in the day after just one bite.

If you are not a smoker or live with pets this place is not for you. After driving all day we were too tired to go any further. Our friends room was so bad they demanded a other room. It stank so bad you could not sleep in the room. On the plus side had a guest laundry and the breakfast which was included in the tariff was pretty good. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was so noisy that you would wake everyone up.

We always stay in Red Lion in Coos Bay, and we will be back again. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The cleaning staff are always cheerful and helpful. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, I always find myself sleeping in!
We eat at the Pancake Mill or at Captains Choice which are both excellent. We use to eat in their restaurant at Red Lion, but lately it seems to be shut down a lot.

Room Tip: When we call ahead they always give us one of the rooms we like, or if they're not available, we...

Quick, getaway trip to the beautiful Oregon coast for the two of us. Booked a room last minute for July 5th and 6th. The place is a little dated, but the room is spacious and the bedding soft and comfortable. Our room has an older TV, but lots of channels. There is a great area for my husband to do his computer work and a comfy, soft chair for me to work from as well. There is a small microwave and refrigerator, plenty of space for clothing to be stored and a sink in the bathroom as well as one in the dressing area next to it. The bathroom floor behind the toilet has some heavy dust that I noticed while taking a bath, and there is a real nasty looking brown stain covering the 1 inch line of grout next to the tub. Haven't tried to find out what it is-but am going to alert housekeeping to see if they can take care of it. The hotel permits pets, which is fine. There were no barking dogs last night, thankfully. As we were leaving for breakfast this morning, the people in the room next to us were packing their car and getting ready to leave. The horrific smells coming from their open room just about nauseated us. They had at least one small dog with them, but kudos to the cleaning gals if they can get that room habitable for the next group of guests. Which brings me back to the big, brown unknown stain in our bathroom next to the tub, and why I am NOT inspecting it any closer...
This hotel offers a continental breakfast for $4.95 a person. We went up the road to the Pancake Mill and shared a giant baked apple pancake for $8.00. It was fabulous!

Room Tip: Choose from a one story, so no one is making noise above you. Ask to physically go inside the room f...
