let me say first off what has been echoed from a few other reviews regarding Coos Bay/North Bend. Simply there are very few Hotel options to choose...period!! Besides the Casino, not one hotel is less than 30 years old.I know cause i grew up here in the 60's and 70's. Sadly, the same existing options are available now as it was when I was growing up (except the casino). This piece of property (different name then) was the top of hotel options in CB in those days. As much as it has aged in this marine environment, the property is holding it's own. The current Red Lion ownership has done a nice job updating the old place; very clean, excellent comfortable new bedding, strong wifi, new flat tv with extended channels, new exercise equipment and awesome (hot) shower. The room did have a funky smell and the AC does need replacing but did work. in fact, i had nothing that did not work in my room.and even the pool and hot tub were working during my entire stay. I had a larger king size room big enough for a slumber party (they liked to make em roomy in those days) I also made sure i had a 2nd floor so i wouldn't deal with noise above me. Personally, I like the "motor lodge" feel rather than standard hotel hallways. Only issue with the experience which has also been indicated by others, is the breakfast protocol. Even though i like the concept to not include breakfast automatically to the price of the room, most people don't get it. They need to make it clear before you sit down that there is a extra charge to eat. Honestly, they should just charge another 5 bucks to the room automatically. Also, they need to expand the breakfast offerings. I stayed four days and wasn't exactly appealing to return for breakfast more than once. I would also suggest to have complimentary coffee/tea in main lobby at all hours as a nice hospitality gesture. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for dinner the one night I was going to eat there so I was unable to rate. However, the menu appeared your average Hotel restaurant offerings.Overall though, this was a great experience and would return. Besides the Casino, It's a close call between Red Lion and the local Best Western as top local hotel picks.

Room Tip: always ask for 2nd floor room.

Had no problem. They checked us in fast and staff was friendly. Rooms were clean and beds were comfy, but it had a smell of cleaning product when you first arrive. It would of been nice if they aired out the place first. Pool was clean and great to swim with the kids.

The family suites are very comfortable, roomy with a separate room for parents, and a separate TV. The staff and service were both excellent, from reception to house maids. The reception staff helped us sort out our itinerary for the two days. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Highly recommend family suites for value for money.

We arrived without a reservation and checked to see if they had a room available. They did, but there was not a smile, welcome, or explaination of the property, breakfast, etc. We felt very unwelcome.

If you like to listen to the entire hotel ventilation fan just above your room, then fine. We got the AAA rate, which put us in a room that looks like it isn't rented much.
Check-in was fine, once the young lady decided to stop with me to answer the phone. Rather than finish with me by putting the caller on hold, I had to wait. Not good form. Big facility, but definitely needs TLC. Stayed there because of the reputation Red Lion USED to have for me.
Drive a bit further to the other places south.
