“Great place to cool off...after you hike down to it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

This is a GREAT place to swim--all sandy, no rocks, nice, clean, calm water, beautiful views. $5 to get in, take a right after you go thru the entrance gate.

After you park, however, it is about a 3/4 mile hike down to the beach, which is clothing optional. There is a section of beach that is clothing required, but it is difficult to get to and honestly, the best beach is the clothing optional one because it includes Sand Island.

Once you get down to the beach you can opt to walk about another 1/4 mile in in ankle-to-thigh deep sandy-bottom water out to the island, and it's worth it. Dogs are required to be on a leash, but I imagine if they're under voice control & you clean up after them it wouldn't be a problem as there is plenty of space here to swim and spread out. Very nice area, highly recommend as long as you're not bothered by a little nudity....it's about half & half out there. I experienced none of the "creepiness" a former (and seemingly immature) reviewer spoke of.

Pack a cooler, a chair, some sunscreen and maybe an umbrella for shade, and go. The vibe is positive, the location beautiful and people are nice--it's truly an Oregon experience.

“Mcsorley mudd photo shoot what an experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014

This time commitment ng to the clothing optional area it was amazing the people were so friendly and laid back. I did.t see any inappropriate. Ehavior just fun sun seakers. The mudd shoot was on the island . I would be very careful walking accross the waterway to island.take a buddy and keep your stuff in a sealed bag just in case. Scott Mcsorley provided a bonding opportunity through his art /photo shoot.I look forward to seing the results The ONLY downfall was thats pretty hot sand. Dont stray from your shoes.

“Nudes to the East, Everyone else to the West”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

Be aware that there is a public nude beach to the east of the end of the east parking lot. The state wants it to be family oriented, so if you go that way, remember that nudity is legal, public indecency is not. Rangers in the park hand out cards made up by the American Association for Nude Recreation telling what is legal and not. They also have emergency numbers on them. Ask for a card if you want one.
There is a parking fee per day. There are also state yearly passes and free passes to some disabled veterans. No overnighters as the park does close at 10.
High water can drastically affect the available beach area. Besides the beaches, the park has lots of picnic areas including group areas. There are no restrooms on any beach, but a good amount in the upper park. No dogs on the beach, but there is a public off-leash area near the boat launch area in the west near the rock itself. During the summer, the Rose City Astronomers and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) co-sponsor "star parties" each month for viewing of the moon, stars, planets, comets and galaxies using members equipment. Free except for parking fee. Check the organizations' websites.
Kiters, windsurfers, parasailers and others also use the area near the beach.
A day trip from the Portland area at milepost 25 on I-84, this is a popular place.

“Not a bad park”

We got here after 6 PM so there was no fee. We stopped so we could view crown point and the vista house from below. We also wanted to see where the rooster broke off from Crown Point

I was anticipating a cool beach with an optional clothing area with people who weren't sexual, but then I came across many old men "stroking it" (WHILE LOOKING AT ME! I'm a teenage male! Probably the youngest person there.). Then also, I came across two men who were "getting it on". I'm fine with nudity as long as it's not sexual in a public place.

This place made me feel gross. It was as if it was a gay beach to hook up with other guys. I am not attracted to that stuff. I wanted to go for the sun.

The place, by itself, is really nice. Just the people who go there are not. And very creepy.

I'm just emotionally scarred...
