This restaurant was adorable..... An unusual one of a kind, kind of place....

A very large area with tall ceilings renovated from earlier days gone by... Reminds you of an old bar from a western movie. The atmosphere was very visually appeasing with a nice center stage that hosts live music. It is full of nostalgic decorations and fun local art on all the walls and attached to a book store next to it. The food was excellent and in large portions. The bartender was great making a specialty drink not on the menu. :-). I will be back!

This is a pub that is a great find. The food is a step above pub food. Big screen tv, and live music. Cottage Grove itself is worth a stop, with an historic downtown and uniformly nice people.
We had an excellent experience.

Heading home from a winter trip from Montana to Napa! First two places we tried to stop on our way were closed! We found this charming pub online with great reviews! So glad we stopped! Charming pub with surprisingly great food! We will make this our road trip stop again! Well worth the side trip whether you are going north or south! Venture off the I-5 a short drive, you will be glad you did!

I've heard the music scene here is good. If you want that review check elsewhere because we came to eat and drink.
We'd been bike riding nearby and one of our party suggested we get a beer at the Axe and Fiddle. Not only do they have a variety of very interesting brews available but as it turns out their food - at least what we ate - was GREAT!
Four of us ate light meals - three of us had the pulled pork sliders and I had the salmon chowder. The sliders were decent sized and quite honestly one of the better BBQs I've had outside my state of North Carolina. Pulled pork with coleslaw on top just like we do it in NC. You get three and a dill pickle on the side. My salmon chowder was one of the best chowders I've eaten. It not only had chunks of smoked salmon (not nova or lox but pieces of smoked fish) but also clams, but pieces of potato, a bit of bacon, and some other things that I didn't take the time to identify. A great smokey flavor, a touch of sweet from the salmon, and hearty.
The only slightly downside......the service wasn't as it could be. We were there from about 4:30 - 6:30 on a weeknight in a prominent spot and once we finally resorted to getting up to find someone who could refill our glasses.

A great place for music and beers but not such a great place for eating and mixed drinks..The decor is really sweet and the acoustics is really good for a bar but the food is pretty basic and a little spendy for what it is. Don't go there for mixed drinks but a great place for beers and ales..
