The Whale Cove Inn is a stunning facility built by absentee owners who obviously have lots of experience in the hotel industry, but lacking in innkeeping, which are worlds apart. We selected this lodging venue primarily because it is a member of Select Registry Distinguished Inns. After staying in many SR inns, this one is sorely lacking in some of the most important areas that keep SR loyalists coming back.

For those staying only one or two nights, it probably will suffice. For us, using Whale Cove as our "home base" for six nights, it became increasingly inadequate in the qualities of a true "Inn". Housekeeping was hit and miss and did not do a complete job on any of our nights. Even though we pointed this out to the front desk, it was not corrected.

The front desk person is on duty from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. There is no guest pantry and since the inn is two miles from anything, if someone has a need, it means a trip into the nearest town. Guests are cautioned about always having their key, which is wise since the entire facility is locked and only a room key will get you in the door. No outside emergency phone exists.

Breakfast, which is usually one of the high points in an SR inn, was made up of a buffet of assorted pre-prepared room temperature items--with all but one item a sweet. If you want carb overload, this is the breakfast for you. We asked for a glass of water one morning and the attendant had to hunt through all the cabinets before finding a glass.

The facility itself is lovely and Sarah, the manager, is a delight. Hopefully the owners will see fit to send her to some true inn association meetings where she can bring back to them the trends of an excellent inn experience.

After twenty years of inn experiences, ten of them being the owners and operators of a true luxury inn, we speak from a wealth of knowledge gained by always seeking to anticipate our guests' needs. The Whale Cove Inn has the potential of being one of the top inns in the country. We hope the owners will see that and make the changes to achieve it.

What a great place the Whale Cove Inn turned out to be. We became acquainted with Sarah ,the general manager long before arriving there, by telephone. We told her she would have to be,not only our general manager, but also our tour guide and Concierge. She accepted all three positions, and performed them admirably . Our room was spacious, overlooking the cove. Our room, and I believe all rooms, have a balcony hot tub, in which my wife luxuriated every morning. The view of the cove allowed one to follow the sun from first light through the morning and on to sunset if one wished, while at the same time the tides came and went, a group of seals paid a visit, and the only thing missing was a grey whale surfacing in the center and spouting. With Sarah's help or her substitutes, Danielle and Ashley,we never lacked a good restaurant.

Our suite was huge and beautifully appointed. The shower is beyond description - streams of water from every direction. The grounds from our top floor view are so well done. Now add the gorgeous water, rocks and beach of Whale Cove. The morning continental offering is attended by the most lovely fellow who sees to every need!

We found the hotel to be quite wonderful. The staff- Sarah, Danielle, and Ahsley were outstanding and extremely helpful. There were 4 of us and the other coulple did not care for the restaurant Beck at all and would not go back. We would have given it another try though. the restaurants in town that we found to be the best were Sharks and Saffron Salmon. There is also a great breakfast spot called La Maison. We did not like the fact the hotel was unattendended by staff at night. The view of the cove is spectacular with views of eagles and wonderful playful seals. Best viewed if you can get down to the point. That and the rooms make it worth the money you will pay. Again the staff makes you feel so welcome and comfortable and will assist you with any need you might have. Folks from Colorado and New England.

Our first trip to the Oregon coast was made that much more incredible because of our stay at The Whale Cove. The view from our room of the cove and ocean was awesome. Our suite was well appointed, the bed was fantastic and the whirlpool on the deck was amazing. The breakfast was billed as "continental", but the quality and selection made it very special. The restaurant in the evening offered a 5,7 or 9 course wine paired meal. Make sure to take advantage of that as an option one evening, you will really be pleaced.
