Reviewed 24 February 2011

Disappointing - dated interior and guest rooms and just felt slightly unclean. Surprised that the room rates are so high.

when you walk through the front door all of the world stays behind. you are greeted by a wonderful gentlemen named Bob who makes you feel like they have been expecting your arrival like family. Beni, his wife greets you with a smile as big as the open arms that she hugs you with. you are led through a beautiful living room, library, and then to your room over looking the depoe bay harbor. when you see the big fluffy bed and cozy fireplace setting, you know you're home. there is a lounge and beautiful fireside room where my wife and i have enjoyed meeting new friends and catching up with each other. in the morning breakfast there are special recipies prepared by your host which are wonderful and also gives everyone a chance to share their last evenings adventures. if you want a better time..... just stay one more night!!! thx to Bob and Beni

If you like the smell of stale cigarette smoke mixed with fresh cigarette smoke from the moment you enter, this is the place for you. The experience only goes down from there. The Innkeeper showed us around the first floor of the dining area, common area overlooking a marina surrounded by dilapidated warehouses and eventually downstairs to our room: Captain 101. While walking down the steps and walking the narrow hallway to the room, the corners were inhabited with spider webs holding dirt particles. Upon entering the room, we were hit in the face with a very strong musty smell. The furniture was straight out of Goodwill. There is nothing wrong with this type of furniture except when one is paying $260.00 per night, one would not expect such low quality. On the writing table sat a bottle of wine only with the name of Harbor Lights Inn. Who knows what vintage the wine came from or the type of wine it was. Also occupying the desktop were two glasses (that didn’t look to be clean), an open flask of sherry and two small dove chocolates. Anyone evil could have dumped anything into the bottle. The carpeting was so grimy that I couldn’t bring myself to remove my shoes, even for the morning shower. And talking about the facilities, the sink’s stopper didn’t work to hold water for shaving. The tub’s drain backed up with the spent shower water depositing the soap scum on the sides. Gross!!! In the morning, we couldn’t bring ourselves to eat the offered breakfast. If the cleanliness of the Inn was any representation to the quality of the breakfast, we couldn’t even fathom eating the food. We look at this as an experience and try to see the good in it. When a Bed and Breakfast isn’t associated with any associations, this is a red flag. We are staying with Bed and Breakfast establishments listed in booklets like “Select Registry”. We stayed in an extravagant Bed and Breakfast in Cannon Beach for $60.00 less a night the following evening.

This is a great little getaway spot for enjoying the beautiful coast. The Inn is a quiet, sweet, neat, picturesque place to stay overlooking the harbor. The Inn keepers have thought of everything, from supplying you with binoculars and loading the fireplace with wood, to providing DVDs and chocolates and Sherry in your room. They also provided us with a print out of how best to tour the area. We followed it to the letter and it made for a great day... including seeing a number of whales right from the highway view points!
The hotel is also pet friendly and they've got great seasonal rates.
Ask for an upper floor room so that you have a more commanding view over the harbor.

Located in the harbor part; easy walk to beach and shops
Hybrid of B&B and small hotel. Nice view of the harbor
Motto “Enter as guests, leave as friends” So true. Beni is a lovely hostess; husband Bob is cool. Charlie is the resident Pekingese princess; Partner is the golden retriever.
Pet friendly
Complimentary sherry and chocolates in the room upon arrival
Nice library
Delicious breakfast entrees; given two choices e.g., delicious ham and cheese omelette
Room cleaning service is somewhat loose and inconsistent

Bob & Beni truly make you feel like you are staying at a friend's home, not a motel. They even had roses and a card in our room since we told them it was our 20th anniversary. This stay was not a first one there and certainly won't be our last! We don't always travel with our dog but it is nice to have the option. Even when we don't take our pet, Partner and Charlie keep me from being homesick. The beds are almost as good as our Tempupedic at home! Every time someone tells me they are going to central Oregon, I tell them they should spend at least one nite at the Harbor Lights!

The bed in our room was very comfortable. Other than that, I dont have much positive to say. The web site states you get 4 hot fresh breakfast choices but we got a plate set down in front of us with mediocre eggs benedict and two thin slices of watermelon. That was it. This is an old hotel or motel and the decor is cheap hotel furniture, the bathroom was dingy and old and we were the only guests here. The owners seemed nice enough but for the cost of the room we were terribly disappointed.
