“Love it!!!”
Reviewed 25 September 2009

I have stayed at this resort at least four times. The Surfrider is one of my favorite spots on the Oregon coast. The views are amazing, the rooms are nice and cozy. I really love sitting by the gas fireplace with the window open so I can hear the ocean. I also love how there is "private" beach access. The resturant is also quite nice, great views, good service and food with resonable prices. I will and do continue to come back to this resort due to the great location, views, food and resonable price. I have only used the hot tube on one vist, it was nice but small.

Rented the two bedroom, two bath suite (Room 21) in first building, upstairs Friday and Saturday night. One of the more expensive rooms; but the furniture was dinged up and OLD. Bedrooms are near the parking lot/walkway not near the ocean so could not enjoy the sounds and view of the sea while in the bedroom. Housekeeping staff were wonderful but the furniture was old, out dated and very "warn." Balcony was GREAT - unobstructed spectacular view of the ocean. Coffee maker and coffee packets made yucky coffee, but at least they did provide it. Bedding was old as well. It WAS roomy - but didn't even bother to turn on the disappointing gas fireplace. Pictures on website are misleading. Appreciated being able to order food to go Friday eve but was very disappointed by the poor quality of the food. Bar Manager was very nice, as were all the Staff. Food disappointing though. Room was not worth the price paid; although the view was spectacular. I agree with other reviewers who say "Resort" is not a good description for this hotel.

To our loyal & potential travelers,

Since our owner took over Surfrider Resort in 2007, he has been constantly working on improving the comfortableness of the rooms and amenities. In fact, he has put in ceiling fans/lights, new big flat screen TV's, new bathroom room flooring, and new granite sink & kitchen counters in every room.

Starting March, we are going to have new furniture in all rooms, all kinds of varieties, some rooms, if large enough, will even have a love seat in them. We are really excited about this upcoming new change, it's going to be awesome and we believe you're all going to enjoy it.

Eventually, the carpeting & flooring of the rooms will be replaced in the near future, too.

All these efforts are chiefly to enhance your stay by making it more comfortable, enjoyable, and satisfying.

Please give us a try and you won't regret it.

Thank you all for your support.

Sincerely,

Surfrider Resort

Room 21 was clean and a good value, but not what we expected. The view to the ocean is wonderful, and the beach is so interesting with the lava flows and fossils, but the room needs upgraded!! The rooms were clean but old-fashioned looking. The living room furniture was very uncomfortable, however it was nice to have a living room & small kitchen. The balcony had a great view, but very little privacy from your neighbor. It was really stupid that you had to go through one bedroom (2Q) to get to the next bedroom (1K w/bath). The fan was old & loud in the bathroom & the paint was peeling off the ceiling above the shower - a couple spiders were there too. This is a nice place but do not expect any type of pampering. The pool & hot tub are uninviting for those without kids - looked like a greenhouse. ** The restaurant was great (we had breakfast) - Claudia was a nice waitress & we saw a whale!

We booked a bungalow. It was more like an old motel. The paneling is rotting on the walls. It smelled musty. There is poor ventilation. If you pull the heavy drapes open to get air in through the windows then everyone who walks by can look into your room. We were told it had an ocean view. There was a small ocean view out the side window but the main view was of the building in front of ours. The pool is in a greenhouse-like building and it must have been 120 degrees in there. The hot tub is tiny - it can hold 2 people, maybe 4 if you're really good friends. The sauna was broken as was the free video arcade. I felt that it was misrepresentation - it definitely looks better in the pictures than it does in person.

We stayed just one night but really enjoyed it. The view from our balcony was great. Two rooms share one balcony, but no one stayed in the room next to us so we had the balcony to ourselves. The beach was beautiful and just steps down from the rooms. We ate at the restaurant there for dinner and breakfast and thought the food, view and the service was very good. No air conditioning but having the small windows open and the fan on (it ran very quietly) was fine for us as the weather was very mild in June. We didn't use the pool so I don't know about that We almost didn't stay there because of some of the bad reviews and I am so glad we didn't listen. Things get updated and changed all the time and you have to take that into consideration when reading reviews.

I chose the Surfrider because my lady friend and I wanted an ocean view motel near Depoe Bay on our annual trip to the Oregon Coast. Picked this one because of some good reviews, their excellent web site and the desire to try a new motel. We discovered that one of the things we really liked was leaving the window open a bit at night a falling asleep to the sound of the surf!

Our 2nd floor ocean view room allowed us a good view of the beach below at the mouth of Fogerty Creek while providing a comfy, modest sized place to relax and watch seals play in the surf and, further off the beach, the occasional whale spout. Everything in the room appeared well cared for. The carpet, paint, furnishings and fixtures were in good condition. Nothing seemed worn, damaged, dirty, thread-bare or just patently awful.

If you want to visit the beach the access here is not what you'd call ADA compliant. From the motel you may choose a winding trail through the brush or dozens of steps down a stair case that hugs a low bluff. We walked to the beach twice and it was worth it both times. The beach is not huge but surrounding rocks and reefs that lie just off shore make it protected. In other words a somewhat reduced chance that a sneaker wave might come in and douse you (or worse). The low bluff and surrounding rocks cut some of the wind and made walking pleasant. We saw one group enjoying a beach fire in the lee of some rocks. In the lobby they post the daily high and low tides on a white board which is handy if you like beach combing or tide pooling.

We didn't dine at the restaurant because we had made other plans but we peeked in the bar and dining room and it looked like a good option. They also had a modest sized room available for meetings/conferences or dining for a group. Though not in Depoe Bay the Surfrider is convenient to either Depoe Bay or Lincoln City.

This was our first stay with Surfrider Resort but it won't be the last.

The service was exceptional (office and housekeeping staff were very polite), the location was phenomenal (a few steps --albeit steep ones-- to the beach), and the price couldn't be beaten; with a very nice heated pool/sauna/hot tub and fantastic adjoining restaurant, we didn't need to leave the premises.

Bonus: Free WiFi

With large rooms and kitchenettes/bedrooms available, the Surfrider Resort is a great place for families (big or small).
