The food (especially the pizza) is very good. The service was attentive, although it slowed a little as the place got busier. We sat on the patio and it was terrific. There's cover for sun or sprinkles, and it feels like a great outdoor room.

Travel & Food magazines love this place, and within limits this is very understandable. Because it is in a small town the restaurant could be easily overlooked. Yet like similar establishments in provincial France it is a hidden gem with a strong local following -- if this were in France, it would at the least get a strong mention in the Michelin Red Guide.

The menu provides a good variety of dishes that use high quality products, and the kitchen staff is clearly first-rate: in general, great beef, pork, and seafood left everyone pleased. Starters, raw oysters (we asked for a second round) and "beignets" (I would call them fritters) made a positive impression. The wine list was very comprehensive, perhaps overwhelming, reflecting an alleged feature of the restaurant: a place where local vintners eat.

So why not "Excellent"? Service. There was clear tension among the wait staff that was likely associated with our server's eccentricities. No particular problem except it appeared to spill over into the relationship between the kitchen and wait staff. Our server was so busy entertaining clientele that he forgot to turn in the main order, the kitchen staff then broke off to have a meal while diners were still ordering from the floor-show waiter, and later in the meal a request for a new non-alcoholic drink was first promised to be "on the way" then "unavailable because the kitchen has stopped". Absent the food, one would have doubts about whether this is a serious place.

Ambiance is casual and decor minimalist, sort of Southern Europe crossed with Japanese neatness.

I would likely go back because the food really is outstanding. This would not, however, be a "destination" visit because I would be fearful weird service issues would again arise.

Portion sizes are generous. Daily specials are always a good choice (including the Oregon strawberry shortcake that is only offered two weeks a year). Generous pour of your favorite Ponzi wine rounds out a great meal. Sitting outside is a treat.

We have always enjoyed Dundee Bistro and drive there from Salem several times a year. The food is excellent and well prepared and we love to sit outside on a nice evening. Tonight the food was excellent as usual, especially the grilled romaine salad with quinoa, but the service was very slow at times and our experience sitting outside was ruined by screaming children. Three tables of people who had young children with them allowed their children to play on the grassy area next to the outside patio. I have been an elementary teacher for over 30 years and I am very tolerant of kids and noise, but there were more than 10 children running and SCREAMING all through our dinner. The parents basically ignored them and the restaurant staff did as well. It was evident that the people around us were also very bothered. What should have been an enjoyable, relaxing evening with good food and wine, sitting in the evening sun, turned into a stressful, unenjoyable dinner and we couldn't wait to leave. We were very disappointed in the parents and the management for not taking care of their customers who came to enjoy a peaceful dinner. I'm giving the bistro 3 stars because the food rates a 5 but the atmosphere tonight was in the negative range!

We had lunch here and found the food to be simple bistro food but delicious and high quality. I had the Cioppino with Cod, Clams, Mussels, Saffron and Tomatoes and my friend had the Fish and Chips. Both were excellent and satisfying portions and well priced. The wine selection was outstanding, but what would you expect from a Bistro surrounded by excellent wineries?

The service matched the food and we look forward o going back again.
