“Carnivorous plants”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Free, just a short drive north of Florence, free, and only takes minutes. You park and walk down a well maintained trail for about 200 yards, and can see the plants in the wild. Very nice side trip. a rest room [parkstyle] in avaliable by the parking/picnic area.

“short trail”

A short and easily traversed path through a wetland location that has wonderful array of plants. There is a bathroom as well... to start the walk or finish.

“BEWARE! DON'T GET TOO CLOSE!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

ONLY KIDDING! But if you want a quick and free botany lesson, then, Darlingtonia State Natural Site should not be missed. Located just a stone's throw from 101, this small gem offers the viewer a rare opportunity to experience up-and-close one of nature's wonders-the Cobra Lily. On an elevated wood walkway, you can observe this carnivorous plant attracting mostly flying insects. In layman's language, this small area has explanatory aids to enrich your understanding of the unique plant. Spend fifteen minutes or one-half hour, you will forever talk about those moments!

“Quick, free, interesting.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

We've taken this little mini-hike with our kids or as a couple on several occasions. Best feature: It's free. You can't complain much about free things. Second: It's easy. Wheelchair or athlete, you'll all find it very easy to enjoy this. Third: It's interesting! You'll see unique plants and sometimes critters. Take your time, take pictures, and just enjoy the lack of man-made stuff (except for the easy-to-maneuver boardwalk that takes you through the "jungle" and the occasional info sign.) The only downside would be if you were a fly or other insect, as this would truly be your worst nightmare.
