Although the rustic quality of the lodge was appealing, it was not particullarly clean or well kept up. Although we booked a room with a private bath the bathroom was across the hallway at the bottom of the stairway leading up to the other rooms, hardly private.
Even though we were one of two rooms staying in the lodge at the time, we came back from our first day away to an unmade bed and an unrefreshed bathroom. We were told that there was coffee available in the kitchen to make upon arrival, However, the coffee maker was dirty and there were no grounds or cream available until the next morning.
Overall, it did not feel as though we were expected let alone welcomed.
There was a little restaurant that provided our dinner the firt night (which was fine, you don't expect much when you are in the middle of nowhere) However, the included breakfast the next morning was just terrible. The eggs were overcooked, the hum of the mivrowave and the consequent hardening of the sausage and potatoes proved that they were merely reheated. Very disappointing. Infact, we skipped it the following morning, opting for the instant coffee and breakfast bars that I had packed.
I will say that the owner was pleasant and helpful and did give us good advice about where to go to make the most of our stay.( Perhaps Innkeeper, is just not his professional calling.)
The area was beautiful and serene, it was great to be away from the traffic and noise of Portland, and the coolness of th A/C in the room was refreshing after walking through the 90 degree desert all day.
I might revisit the area, but I would definately find a nicer place to stay and eat.
