“Another Great Stay!”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

We've stayed here a few times over the last couple of years. The staff has always been friendly. The rooms are really clean and nicely decorated. They have real photos on the walls instead of really bad hotel pictures. The beds are really comfortable.
My only gripe is that they close the spa at 9pm and only open at 10am. Expanding the hours would really make this place perfect. Second on my list is now breakfast is at the Chowder Hut. You get a $10 credit over there, but I prefer the little breakfast they used to have. The Chowder Hut I believe is owned and operated by the same owners. I will review the restaurant separate as I really like the hotel, but not fond of the resturant.

Room Tip: For economy, the 118 is a good choice. It's on the end and has a great view of the ocean. The...

We made our reservations over the telephone. Upon our arrival we were cordially greeted and the process of registration went smoothly with one error that was corrected by the next morning. While sitting on the bed, it felt like lumps/rocks had been placed in it. The bed was not the best but when lying in it, became reasonably comfortable for sleep. The first night we slept on the pillows that was on the first bed (of the two queen size in the room). They were not comfortable and I awoke the next morning with a feeling like I needed a chiropractor. My neck loosened up within a couple hours and did not give me anymore trouble. That night, we traded pillows from the other bed and found them to be more supportive and comfortable and received a very good nights rest with no neck problems the next morning. We ate our breakfast at the Chowder House each morning and had wonderful service, great tasting food and plenty of it. The Chowder House does not utilize a wait staff and so you must give your order at the register from a posted menu with specials of the day posted on dry ink boards. DO NOT LET YOURSELF BE DECEIVED! Go in and enjoy wonderful food, served hot directly from the kitchen by the friendly staff. This was another great value attached to the Pacific Reef Resort and has recently been remodeled and is still a work in progress due to a limited budget.
The resort itself is an old structure and has a character all its own. It is restful and peaceful and has the ability for major groups and accommodations. All the staff responds almost instantly and is always friendly. You are made to feel as if a member of the family. We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: They do have both, ocean views and non-ocean view rooms. Ask for your taste to rooms.

This was our third try staying on the Gold Beach "strip" and definitely our best experience. We took the upstairs loft "suite" for the three of us, and it's a huge, comfy space for the ridiculously low price of $90+tax. One king bed in the main room, two queens in the bedroom, microwave/fridge in the kitchenette, huge and lovely bathroom, three quiet ceiling fans, great ocean view. But get into this room early -- it was oven-hot when we arrived, and it was a good five hours with door and windows open (and all fans going) before it cooled down enough to sleep. And keeping the windows open required a big stick and the bathroom wastebasket. But did I mention it was $90? Also, the shower was great. (I always rate the shower.) And it was in a bathroom bigger than the Ritz-Carlton. For $90.

The same couple runs the Chowder House. Breakfast was very good and another steal of a deal. Order extra sausage gravy with the biscuits. You'll want it.

The room was cozy and clean, the staff was friendly, And the chowder house was delicious! It was quiet at night. There's a wonderful hot tub (and it's in a private housing, Great for the Oregon coast, since it's usually raining) I will definitely be staying here again.

We enjoyed our stay. Nice views to ocean. Clean but a little stark inside. Could use a few artworks or decoration. Really comfy bed. Beach is short walk away. Real nice staff. Is rated well and is a good deal for the money.

We carefully planned our Oregon Coast drive from San Francisco to Portland. After researching hotels in Gold Beach on TripAdvisor, carefully selected this property as we are travelling with our little Schnauzer. We made our reservation and prepaid through Expedia and at no time was asked if I had a dog or a pet. We selected the, "Luxury King Room On The Top Floor Overlooking The Pacific Ocean."

At check-in we were asked if we had a pet. I answered, "Yes, our dog." The conversation temporarily started to go down hill... very quickly. I was told that pets were not allowed in the room we booked. I was offered a downgraded room or a booking at the neighboring hotel. Upon looking at the doggy approved downgraded room - we started to panic as it was not acceptable to our standards.

At what was going to be the lowest moment, the front desk agent, Anna? appeared and enthusiastically told us the management had approved us to have our dog in the reserved room. I appreciate the management following through and making this a successful stay.

The room has a wonderful view off in the distance of the ocean. You can leave your window open and hear the sounds all night! There are comfortable chairs on the balcony to enjoy a cocktail and the sunset.

BTW - had dinner at Spinners, just a short walk North of the hotel. Check it out.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a renovated room on the West side of the property - top floor is a must!
