“better off going to a best western”
Reviewed 21 July 2011

Well I tried to make reservations at sister property Irelands, but was told they full, so they booked a room at Gold Beach, strange that both nights we were there the vacancy sign was on. Irelands pictures show rustic cabins/rooms for what they charge those cabins are in need of serious upgrade they are dumps not worth $$$, I will give them kudos for friendly/helpfull staff. The rooms are way overpriced as they are no better then a motel 6, the bed was comfy, but the bedding was old and smelled, mismatched furniture that looked like it came from a garage sale, and should be tossed, small micrwave on the dresser, coffee maker on the sink outside the bathroom, 2 old recliners, with a little table, no desk or work space if you want to use your laptop. The ocean view balcony was over the backside of the parking lot, so you get to hear all the people and cars coming and going, its a bit of a walk to the ocean, not handicap friendly, did not see a shower at the spas so the bottom of the spa has sand and dirt, and while in the spa you cant see the ocean. The comp breakfast at both places was nothing, oatmeal, ceral, coffee, hard boiled eggs, and they started late for being in a town that could attract fisherman. Most of the places we stay, if there is not a resturant attached, they have waffels, bagels, yogart, hot and cold ceral sweet rolls, biscuts/gravey, breakfast meats. Gold Beach could be so much more, they roll up the sidewalks at 6pm on a Sat night???... in the middle of summer, tried to get a espresso at 3 places but they were closed. Bottom line better off if you stay in Brookings or Bandon.

There are a number of poor reviews for a reason. Our room smelled of cat urine and had stains. The rooms need to be updated and the mattresses were terrible. I have stayed at the Inn of the Beachcomber just a few doors down and prefer their beds and decor. We opened the door and let the odor be replaced with the smell of the ocean. Great views from the room. My family of four all felt basically the same way about the room. Adequate for us....but just barely.

The person checking us in really overstated the quality of the room and the breakfast. I spent less for a room in Coos Bay the day before on the same trip and got a whole lot more including a breakfast buffet (eggs and bacon).

I really didn't care for the framed letter in the room claiming there is a person posting false reviews on Trip Advisor. I am not that person nor do I think there is one. Just a sad attempt to pull at heart-strings. The "bad" photos posted by others mirror our experience as well.

Just avoid this place if you can because there are better options in town.

I wholeheartedly prefer to support a family-owned, local business and this hotel is just that. Rooms were very clean although a bit dated. The balcony, oceanside hot tubs, recliners, and ginormous, flat screen tv more than made up for how dated the fixtures looked. We slept with our balcony door open and listened to the waves crash...really can't put a price on that. We will definitely be back. Well worth the $139 we paid

This was one of the places we stayed during our anniversary weekend. We were in room 301- top floor with a balcony. The view of the gardens and grounds was amazing! The room was nice and big, the bed comfy, the Wifi worked great and They did something I thought was pretty cool- they have a nice big screen TV with rocking recliners. I have stayed some beautiful places with really uncomfortable furniture so this was so very welcome :) On a side note, Oregon smoking laws are very strict, you cannot smoke on the balcony in a non smoking room and this property is very serious about this law. It didn't effect our stay, just thought some of you might want to know.

Room Tip: top floors have private balconies

Gold Beach Inn was exactly what we expected....breathtaking views, large & spacious rooms, and a central location. The front desk staff was very friendly. This is a family owned & family run hotel that's not like other "cookie cutter" hotel chains. We are so glad we got to stay here and enjoyed every moment. The private balcony was special, too. We slept with the door & window open and listened to the sounds of the coast.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a room with a view of the beach

The grounds and room were extremely well kept. It was very quiet, which is important to us. We had a third floor room facing the ocean and the sun set was a beautiful end to a long trip up the coast. We also had a great walk on the beach in the evening. There is lots of ground space, not your usual high density hotel on the beach, which is what really makes the Gold Beach Inn special. We want to come back and spend more time at the Gold Beach Inn the next time.

My wife and I stayed at this location on June 27th, we had no reservations, and called several places to stay, landing on this location by accident. The woman at the front desk was extremely friendly, had no problem with me paying cash, and put us in a beautiful room. I have read previous reviews, and though I cannot attest to other rooms, can say room 310 was very nice. The room had a new flat screen, microwave and refrigerator, king bed, 2 recliner chairs, and a view of the ocean that was perfect. In the evening, with the door open to the balcony, the ocean sounded wonderful. The best aspect of this place were the ocean front spas. The view from the spas aren't perfect, but made for a very romantic and relaxing evening. Super easy beach access allowed my wife and I to jump out of the spas, put on our shirts, and go look for agates and shells on the beach. All in all, a very nice room, for a good price. Is $138.03 with tax high? I don't think so, with the service, room quality, view and spas, it was worth every penny. To the owners and employees, thank you so much for making the first night our impromptu, unplanned honeymoon perfect!
