Best Western Mt. Hood Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Government Camp
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 January 2013

Easy access to all ski resorts on mt hood. Short walk to stores and restaurants in Government Camp..

Lobby area gets crowded at breakfast time however; it's manageable..
Hotel has a hot tub, small gym, washer and dryer and a small hill for kids to go sledding next to parking lot..
Rooms are spacious.. Tv cable is limited however, pay per view movies and wifi are offered.
Nice micro brew restaurant next door..
Discounted ski tkts available at the hotel.. Nice touch..

Our goal, given that we have a 2-door sportscar and little desire to drive on snow, was to stay close to where we could ski and enjoy the nightlife in Government Camp (fun fact, Charlie's Mountain View is AWESOME) so rather than head up to he famous Timberline lodge, we nestled ourselves in at the Best Western Mt. Hood Inn. Situated within walking distance to both Ski Bowl (the best night skiing on the mountain) and the restaurants and shops at Government Camp, we got exactly what we wanted.

The location was ideal, the staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating (we were allowed to keep our car parked in their underground parking even after checkout while we took one last snowshoe hike up the mountain, mere minutes from the door) and the room was great! The in-room Jacuzzi was huge and definitely a big selling point. At night, under the lights cast from Ski Bowl, we were only a 10 minute walk to the quaint (but growing!) town of Government Camp, and we simply fell in love with it's rustic charm. This is Oregon at it's best - good people, good skiing and outdoor options at every turn, and all done without frills, but not lacking in anything you would want.

We are definitely looking forward to adding this inexpensive quick getaway to our yearly vacation plans!

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side overlook the woods - get the king bed with the in-room Jacuzzi - it's a M...

As lovely as the Timberline Lodge is, we were very happy that we stayed at the Mt. Hood Inn. The price for our room was very reasonable, and it was very clean and nice. We really liked the "lodge" feel of the lobby, especially the big stone fireplace that was lit each night.

The women who worked at the front desk were all very friendly and helpful. One even loaned me her personal map to help us out with some hikes. The breakfast was good with a decent selection. Even though I initially thought it would be odd to eat in the lobby, it ended up being just fine and plenty comfortable (although if it had been busy it may have been another story).

The hotel is situated in a great location, in that it's only a short drive up to the Timberline Lodge for hikes and a walk around the historic hotel. I would highly recommend going up to the 2nd floor restaurant/bar area after hiking for a beer and bowl of chowder if you're not planning to have dinner here. There is also a great little brewery right next door to the Mt. Hood Inn where we had a nice dinner and good beer. There are a ton of great hikes within a short drive of the hotel.

We had no complaints and were impressed with the hotel, particularly for the reasonable rates. We would definitely stay here again.

The staff was very friendly, covered/indoor parking is amazing in winter conditions. I have been riding here at Mt. Hood for over 20 years and this is definitely my favorite place to stay. Lobby fireplace is a great place to have breakfast and your coffee before you start your day. The Jacuzzi is great to relax in after a light workout in the fitness center. The strip of Government Camp begins right here at the Best Western and it is nice walk at night as well. Great place, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Very worth the rate.

We had a hard time making reservation, and then the check in process was even worse. One of the desk clerks accused us of lying about our reservation. Once in the room the phone did not work, the chair, and the remote for the TV were broken. There were more dogs than people in the hotel, should re-name the motel Mount Hood kennels.

My husband and I went up to the Government Camp for my birthday. We had a great stay at the hotel. We booked a hotel room with a Jacuzzi which was really awesome. The bed was comfortable and everything was pretty clean. The staff seemed very friendly, and we were well taken care of. The camp itself is pretty cool we enjoyed walking around and visiting the bars at night. It ended up snowing about 6 inches which was pretty cool.

I would like to say that the hotel left a great impression on me, but when it came to customer service I wasn't so impressed. My husband left some clothes at the hotel and we called as soon as we got home when we realized they were gone to ask if they could ship them to us as we live about 2 hours away and weren't planning another trip back up to Mt. Hood. They told us that they would send them out to us. Two weeks went by and we still hadn't received his clothes yet and his card hadn't been charged for anything so we called back. They told us that they still had them and were planning on getting them out.

It has now been another week and a half and we haven't received his clothes so I called again today. The front desk agent was nice and understanding as I explained the situation, she said she didn't understand why they hadn't been sent, she said maybe they didn't have CC # on file... I said that we paid for one with our room so they do have it. She said she would finally get it out today. I am glad it is being taken care of, but as for customer service in general I was not impressed. If there was a problem with a card or anything like that they should have called us and let us know instead of letting a whole month go by without a word about the situation.

I would stay at this hotel again, but would be sure to check to make sure we had all of our items as we may not see them again anytime soon.
