A good alternative to the relatively high priced food at Timberline. This is an old-fashioned short order breakfast place. Anything Huckleberry is good

We dropped in to the Huckleberry Inn for a late lunch on a Monday. Its a reasonably small place, and even though we got a booth pretty quickly, the Inn remained busy throughout our stay. There were homemade soups that sounded good, but the tomato/beef/mac soup special I ordered somehow came to the table as lental soup, instead. It had been a long wait, so I ate it happily... I'd give it a B at best. Then we waited some more for our orders... Reuben Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Salad, Hamburger & a Wrap. We were hungry and getting hungrier. When our orders finally arrived, we ate... period. The food was hot and flavorful. Rating: OK plus.Nothing special. This cafe is obviously not meant to be a fancy place serving gourmet entrees, sandwiches, etc. Rather, it is just a clean place with decently cooked, tasty food, a nice (albeit small) staff, and some of the best fresh cut french fries I've had in recent memory. Perhaps that's why everything took so long in Government Camp... not a Government shut-down, just folks focused on cutting those good potatoes into fries, and being rather meticulous about it. Nice folks. We'd probably go back in a pinch.

We have always stopped for Huckleberry pie and ice cream any time we are near Mt Hood. It is next to impossible to find huckleberry pie any where but this place always has it and it has been a signature item for years. This time the pie just wasn't good mainly because the crust was almost like wood. At $7.50 a slice we decided we must look elsewhere for our huckleberry fix.

When we arrived at the Huckleberry Inn we had a late lunch in the restaurant and I was thrilled to see yogurt and fruit on the menu, my husband was equally happy with his ham and cheese sandwich. For breakfast the next morning the veggie omelet was delicious with an abundance of fresh veggies, cheese, and sprouts on top. For those that aren't concerned about healthy eating they also had huge home made pastries. The great thing about this restaurant is that they are open 24/7 and you can get anything on the menu any time of the day or night.

A bit pricey but the portions are huge. I ordered an omelet and it was stuffed full of bacon and mushrooms. Husband ordered Huckleberry pancakes. We shared and were both full. Both meals were delicious.
