“It's got character”
Reviewed 3 September 2011

As you might tell from the huge range of opinions on this hotel, this place has a lot of character. If you like that, or like independent hotels rather than big chains, you'll probably like this place. I was between a three and a four on my rating here, but opted for the four because I like character and supporting small businesses.

Grants Pass as a whole surprised me... more strip mall and less picturesque than I had always imagined. We stopped for one night here on a trip between Oregon and California. It was a couple mile drive from the freeway, through a lot of strip malls, until you get to the "downtown". There's a big, three lane, one way road going through the downtown, and the hotel is right on the right hand side before you hit a bridge going over the river. I had imagined more remote somehow.

The staff is exceptionally friendly. They definitely made me smile and happy to support the place. They were definitely the highlight.

The room was old school. If I remember correctly, we actually had carpet on the walls. Army green carpet to boot I think. It was absolutely outdated, but it had a beautiful balcony overlooking the river and we slept just fine.

Breakfast was included in this funny, old school room called the crow's nest or something like that. The pool looked so pretty in the pictures but it was smaller and off the parking lot. The hot tub was being repaired when we were there. Still, we all enjoyed the pool.

This location is great if you want to do the jet boat ride, which we did. Not something we would do all the time (We're more of canoe people than jet boat people), but it was fun!

Overall, if you're headed to Grants Pass I think this is a great place to stay!

Staff was friendly and accommodating... A convenient stop on our week long road trip. Clean if in need of updating. Easy walk to tap rock northwest grill (ok)
Loads of waterfowl wandered by with a nice burbling brook sound from the river to mask some traffic noise.

Holly Reilly, the front desk manager, provided us exceptional customer service. My wife and I accidently got locked out of our hotel room and were stuck on the balcony of our second story room. Holly was alerted by other guests of our plight and came to our rescue. She was not able to access our room through the front door, so she went to the next room over and passed us cold water and a bottle of wine to drink while we waited for engineering to get our door unlocked. That took about 1 hour and during that time, Holly continued to check on us and make sure we were OK.

The Riverside Inn is an a very nice hotel. Our room overlooked the Rogue River and was quiet.

This was only one of many hotels we stayed at on our 3300 mile road trip with our dog. It is also the only 2-star Auto Club rated hotel we stayed at on our trip. That said- let me say that this is a terrific little motel. It is in need of some updating and TLC, but overall we were very happy for the two nights we stayed. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. Laura, in the Eagle's Nest--where breakfast is served--is just a delight. All rooms have a balcony facing the Rogue River. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The setting is wonderful. There isa walk path that goes under the main road to a restaurant that was recommended by one of the front desk girls. Good food, and a great view sitting on the deck. Friendly, accommodating wait staff. If we every go back to Grant's Pass we would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor as we had a dog. If you do not have a pet, ask for a room on the 3rd flo...

Checked into our room after 7 1/2 hour car ride with one and two year old grandsons. Two year old had just gotten car sick all over himself and his "blankie". Inqired into laundry services on site or close by as grandson cannot sleep without the blanket and it was getting late. The courteous staff offered to include the blanket in their next towel load. Andrea and Chelsea saw to it that the blanket was cleaned and ready for us when we returned from dinner. They also slipped a small refrigerator into our room to keep bottles of milk and juice cold at no extra cost. They were lifesavers after a very long day.

I agree with the other guests that the carpet and room was a little dated however it was very clean.

I"ve noticed that some reviewers have confused the Riverside Inn with The Lodge at Riverside. It all used to be one property (Riverside Inn), however, part of it burned down a few years ago. Apparently that property was purchased and was rebuilt by a different owner as The Lodge at Riverside .

Check-in at the Riverside Inn was courteous and efficient, however, we were disappointed to learn that there are no refrigerators in the rooms. Almost unheard of these days

Our room was on the third floor, and we had to juggle our luggage down a small flight of outdoor steps to get to the elevator. The elevator itself was disgusting. It smelled bad, and the carpet was stained and filthy.

The room itself was, shall we say, "rustic". It did have a large stone gas fireplace, but since it was 98 degrees outside, we didn't see any need to use it. The in-room coffee service was located in the main part of the bathroom, right next to the toilet! Hello! We moved the coffeemaker, mugs and setup out onto the desk in the bedroom.

We were also suprised (and maybe we're just spoiled to see an old 27-inch TV in the room. Most hotels nowadays have flat-panel TVs Again, if you want "rustic", this is the place to be.

All in all, a huge disappointment. We usually stay at La Quinta in Grants Pass, but because this was our 21st wedding anniversary, we wanted to stay someplace special. The only thing the Riverside Inn has going for it is its location - all rooms have a balcony overlooking the beautiful Rogue River.

We'll go back to La Quinta next time we're in Grants Pass.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your stay. I am disappointed your stay wasn’t all that it could have been.

People often do get Riverside Inn and The Lodge at Riverside confused. We are in close proximity to one another and we are owned by the same company. The portion of the old Riverside Inn that is no longer owned by our company is the section that used to sit between 6th and 7th Streets and was where Rafter’s restaurant and the lobby were located. About six years ago, that section was sold to new owners who tore down the old hotel section and restaurant. In its place, they built a new restaurant now known as Taprock Northwest Grill. The Hellgate Jetboat docks are still located there and the pathways that lead to and from the restaurant are still there as well. Being next door to one of the largest attractions in Grants Pass, as well as a full restaurant, is a great convenience to many of our guests.
I’m sorry to hear you had trouble with your luggage. The Riverside Inn does have a luggage cart available for our guests and there is a ramp from the parking lot to the elevator. I apologize that no one saw you struggling with your luggage and offered assistance.

In regards to the elevator, the carpet was bad and has since been replaced with vinyl flooring. A very short time ago we had a guest drop an ice cooler in the elevator, spilling its contents. While I can’t speculate on the contents of the cooler, it did cause significant damage to the carpet which our housekeeping staff would treat each morning and afternoon until we could get the flooring replaced. It took about four or five days before the ruined carpet was changed to vinyl.

As far as the rooms not being equipped with a refrigerator, that is correct, however, we do have a number of refrigerators available to our guests. If a refrigerator is requested, we can have one brought to your room free of charge.

I thank you for your comments and I do hope you return so we can show you that you lodging experience was not typical of what it should have been. All of us at the Riverside Inn take great pride in serving our guests and strive to make each stay exceed all expectations.

This motel, is very convenient to those taking the Hellgate River Trip on Rogue River. Reasonably priced for families, with pool and hot continental breakfast. All rooms face the river. They accept Entertainment card, for 1/2 price.
