The veggie bowl is awesome and the brown rice is very good. When it comes to meat, it seems they don't like to serve much of it... Lots of new restaurants around... don't see much people going there as before... but we always swing by for a quick meal.

This is the only chain, quick-food restaurant we frequent. The service is always quick and the food fresh and delicious. I do notice that sometimes the portion sizes vary from visit to visit, but if I ask about it, there is no resistance to solving the problem.

I eat at Qdoba a lot and thought that I would give this a try. I had a burrito bowl and it was not very good at all. The hot salsa was very bland and the black beans were hard and dry. The staff were nice, but I could tell that they didn't like the job. I will never be back.

You know what you are going to get at Chipotle. This particular one (the franchise owner) has taught his line workers to be a little stingy with their portions compared to the average Chipotle, so be like Tiny Tim and say "More ______, please!" I like Chipotle, but I never went to one that was this stingy with their original dose of whatever - rice, beans, meat, etc. I go to Chipotle when I am hungry, it's not real Mexican food, but it's near-great fast food.

Let me start with the stupidest thing about Chipotle.... THEY DON'T HAVE JALAPEÑOS! Being that a Chipotle is a smoked Jalapeño, you would think a place called Chipotle would have... uh... Chipotles or at least Jalapeños!!! That's like Taco Bell not serving Tacos!

OK, lets move on. First, I'm not a fan of chain Mexican restaurants. They are usually lacking in flavor, use cheap ingredients or just too dumbed down for the masses. Chipotle is no exception!

Brain child of Steve Ells, who went to a Culinary School in San Francisco, he said he was inspired by the local "Mission Style" burritos. OK, sounds like he had a great intentions! So why would he create a restaurant chain that serves a product that's not even close to the quality of any decent Mission style (Mission district) burrito? He babbles on is his web site video about quality of ingredients. Fine, but what about authentic tastes and renditions? No mention of that and the food reflects this lack of authenticity. That said, if his goal was create a big corporate cash cow, he did achieve something.

Moving onto the menu selection. Quality ingredients or not, the chicken is dry and tasteless. Carnitas lacking in flavor and moisture. Steak is dried out chunks of meat. Veggies are, well, veggies. The only Meat selection of any note is the Barbacoa Beef. But, what is the definition of Barbacoa Beef?

According to Wikipedia: Barbacoa is a form of cooking meat that originated in the Caribbean with the Taíno people, from which the term “barbecue” derives. In contemporary Mexico, it generally refers to meats or whole sheep slow-cooked over an open fire, or more traditionally, in a hole dug in the ground covered with maguey leaves.

What's Chipotle's definition?

"Barbacoa Beef: Spicy, shredded beef, slowly braised for hours in a blend of chipotle pepper adobo, cumin, cloves, garlic and oregano until tender and moist."

Hmmmm? Not the same.

Even if the Barbacoa pasts the taste test... The Cilantro Lime Rice is so boring and out of place in any Mission Burrito, as are some of the other mediocre additives. The Guac is amazingly nasty and has the texture of toothpaste.

Servers are bubbly with big smiles, but know nothing about Mexican food beyond what they are taught in orientation. When I asked for Jalapeños and they stated they didn't have any. I asked if they knew what a Chipotle was. Answer, the sauce we put in one of our burritos. I returned with.... A Chipotle is a smoked jalapeño. Server smiled and said, 'Oh! really?'

IMO, this is an embarrassment to the Mexican cuisine and a mockery of the Mission style burrito. That said, people flock to these places! Why? People like cheap bland food wrapped in a tortilla? Sad, but could be true. ;-)
